Yes going up. Silvio dalla torre also use this tuning(but for classical music) . He calls it bassetto tuning. The other strings are spiro red Mitchell medium

Beautiful playing all around, John. Alan has been a favorite of mine for years. The video is remarkably well done, as well. Great shots and well timed editing.

Thanks @MLysh — ARTE and WDR make very good live concert videos. Alan & Peter were a blast to work with in trio, and also with the big band.
About 3-4 years ago I put Kaplan mediums on my bass, as I was doing all classical sectional playing. The Kaplans have gone dead, so I put my Sonores Rabbath set back on. Oh my! What was I thinking??? May bass sounds so clear, responsive, and much louder! So glad to have the Rabbath strings back on!!

Hi Andrea, You don’t really hear any pickup in the video because that was recorded only with microphone. (Schoeps MK41)
Onstage, I was using a Fishman Full-Circle on that bass through the Platinum Pro preamp into a Glockenklang Bass Art head & Glockenklang 1x15 cabinet. That’s what I usually use with the WDR Big Band.

I've mounted the SONORES BASSO (NOT AP) 2017 and with my bass – that is a little on the boomy side – my Realist LIfeline wasn't so good if used alone without mic (DPA 4099). Mixed with 4099 it was pretty good. I think the Full Circle response will be also better. I think the Sonores require absolutely a mic to be well amplified.
I just received and put on the set of Corax I received from Thomas88. I was using spirocores on the E and A and Gamut light+ D and G. The Corax are similar in size to the previous string setup not noticeable in that respect. Sound wise they sound AMAZING! Much much clearer and they make the bass ring a lot more. Notes are more defined and ring clearer. In addition they sound great with the bow. IMO not so with gamuts. Thank you Thomas88 (and Gerold).

However, I'm currently doing a musical project which require me to have a low (not long!
) C string, so I was thinking that I will contact Gerold to make me one in the Wrap-fashion.
Has anyone any experience in ordering single strings by Gerold?
I've gotten the feeling that he's not very fond of doing that...

Not sure if he’ll do it but be prepared to feel the pain of an expensive string. When I ordered a fifths set for my then new bass, the upcharge on the C string alone was more than most new sets from the regular manufacturers. . You haven’t lived until you’ve spent $900 on a set of strings.
Yes, I was prepared for this...
But the thing is I tried on a Bel Canto low B and tuned it up to C, but the difference in tension between the Wraps and Bel Canto low C was too great of a leap.
Efrano, Kürschner and Gamut Low C/B strings are around 200$.... I can see why they should be expensive... It's alot of material to put together!
But I really like the Wraps, so I thought maybe it's ok to spend a little more on a fantastic string than to spend almost as much on a mediocre string... (Mediocre in this case being not as good of string inte the mix of other strings!)
I've given a try to AP strings in the Gerold's workshop and I remember AP have a littler gauge compared to OLIVE that I mounted on my bass at that time. I've not checked but I feel also Sonores Basso have a littler guage compared to Oliv. Oliv D is very big for example. I like Olive D6G but their pitch is not very stable. After six months I'm mounting Sonores I can feel that are better in maintaining tuning stability compared to the Olive. My 2 cents.
