Exactly why the spiros are going on on Thursday. If they’re good enough on this new bass for Mario Pavone to play on for 24 years they are good enough for me.
This. It sounds to me like " hey I got this AMG Mercedes for free but I`m going to change it to VW Polo because I have this dogma going on ".
I just got a set of the Basso AP from another talkbass user. Finally retiring the Corax Fire set I bought in... 2013?
So stoked on these strings! They have everything I liked about Animas with none of the things I disliked. Nice and throaty gut sound with just enough overtones, lots of different pizz tones are available. They bow sooooo much easier then the Corax Fire too.

I couldn't bow the corax strings at all. I mentioned this to Gerold and he said that they are very bowable and classical guys use them. Now my bowing is by no means my strong point but I do know what works and what doesn't.
Are you getting the black fingers from the new strings? I tried the Wraps and got black fingers even from them.

I think they are a wonderful string combo. I remember at NEC doing my undergrad and doing lessons with Don Palma and bringing that setup in. Did not work for me for classical great for jazz though. I'm sure the Corax are usable and would do fine if you were doing a lot of work between Jazz and Classical.

Spiros have a lot higher tension than Gerolds strings. Might take some time until your bass adjusts to the higher tension.
I haven't liked any bass I played that had some flavour of Gerolds strings, but this might be my taste of sound and feel and probably also the fact that they are out of my budget. And again a high C string is only available for a very few sets.
And I would like to have a string that could be reordered as it is, not enhanced, whatever that means to you or me.

Snagged this and have it on my old Bohemian. On a lark, I put on some Velvet Compas solos (tuned down) with a normal Compas E. Bear in mind this bass sounds pretty darn good no matter what she’s wearing. But DANG she’s really singing now. The velvets are there until I can save up the cash for a set of Gerold’s strings. Played his new line in Lucca, and they all sound amazing! Can’t wait until this bass is wearing some Bassos!
The tailpiece worked really well for me too. It opened up the e and a strings.
May I ask why you're using the solos tuned down with the regular E? The Compas 180s are already pretty low tension, and they're designed with equal tension across 4 strings.

Simple, it’s what I have and I don’t feel like transposing everything right now. They play really nice, and sound great!
I’d like to try those strings. If your bass still has them in November I want to check it out.

Yes, they say that, but in reality the tension grows a bit towards the lower strings like Spiros do and I like it that way.
The Classico set is more even tension across the strings, but I had two bad A's before I abandoned that route. And they are not much easier to bow than the Compas 180.
I'm very interested in just a G-string of these... I contacted him and he'll only sell full sets. I don't understand that.
One does not just sip the kool-aid. You jump headfirst in, swim around awhile and see if you like it. The instrument and the player need to take time to adjust to a new paradigmatic shift. Might as well try the tailpiece cord while you’re at it. You just might never go back.
