Well, since Gerold developed the silk core Anima and Garbo strings (and some others too) for Velvet/Schertler, this is not so new.
He might be able to do that again now because a contract might have forbidden that for some time after the end of the cooperation.

I find it interesting that he has changed the core material, but not the name of the string.

I think you have the option to choose either silk or gut.

I can't see any information about the pros and cons of choosing either gut or silk though...

Darn, these are the only strings that would tempt me away from Spiros since Mr. Genssler is offering a stabilized silk core. Animas are my second favorite string, but the fragility and the fact that they start to sonically die after a year makes them simply unaffordable. I’m sure Genssler’s silk core strings will put Velvets to shame and if he solved the fragility, sonic lifespan, and arco response problems of Velvets then damnit these may just be the perfect string.

yeah, lucky they're so expensive or my commitment to just using Spiros and resisting curiosity would be seriously challenged!

I bought a set of the silk core J-Roques back in may and I love them! They feel super nice and have the deep sound that I wanted. They're almost like beefed up Garbos. Before I was playing Anima EAD with a Garbo G- the J-Roques blow that set out of the water. The G string sounds amazing through the entire range and the whole set sounds super deep in the low register. The J-Roques bow really well too (the D string is pretty slippery, but you get used to it.) I ended up swapping the E out for an Anima because I needed a little more tension.

I’ve been using the AP strings (d and g) wrapped in steel and plastic... so much expression is allowed with these strings! Gerold just keeps getting better and better

Got to play Ben Street's bass for a couple of minutes last night. He's using Genssler "Wrap-X" or "X-Wrap" and boy are they nice. Warm, full sound on his Kriegle, and very supple and easy to play... "Get thee behind me Satan!"

I put on Gerolds new silk strings "Basso 2020" today. My first impression is they're easier to bow than his gut strings "Basso 2018" that I played before. They are low in tension and allow for a very nuanced playing. Soundwise I find them to be pretty close to his gut strings. Also they speak very easily in the upper positions all over the strings. It remains to be seen how they work within the section. I don't pizz that much, so I can't say anything reliable about that.

I was reading for quite a long time in this forum/thread without being registered, so I thought it would be a good time now to change that and give back.

I have the AP2018 set on now. 2020 Basso set coming in soon. The AP's pizz sound is to die for, but the Basso set is - indeed - supposed to bow better without giving up a modern jazz pizz sound. I've chosen the Basso set for that reason. Also the Basso set is said to be slightly thinner but with slightly more tension than the AP set. I'll be able to compare both sets and shall report back.
