Sound System fails and drummer can't hear. Over coming the problem?

You could always just rehearse enough that it doesn't matter if you lose your monitors. One band I was in that did all that bitchy interwoven prog stuff, had the monitor mix go out on us in the middle of a set. We just kept going, playing it the way we rehearsed it, and it came out sounding fine. My GF and sister who were out in the audience (and knew our stuff inside out) said nobody noticed because we sounded like we always did.

Like the saying goes: You don't rise to the occasion. You default to your level of training.

If your bands record "keeper" takes at rehearsals, your bandmates can get in their reps as individual-practice play-alongs rather than needing group rehearsal time.

The Beatles said that one of the reasons they stopped touring was because they couldn't hear themselves over all of the noise from the crowds. But, if you listen to their concerts, they still sounded great.

Those gigs may not have been enjoyable experiences for the band, but they pulled them off like pros.

That's the thing.

I know rehearsals are an absolute anathema to some of the crew here. But knowing your material inside out can be a lifesaver at times.

Played a multi-band festival a few weeks ago...couldn't hear a damn thing on stage...
Just kept playing and listened best I could...all you can do.

Yeah, it was still fun... Could have been mo better... Generally always have fun playing. If the FOH Slider Munky is on point and makes us sound good out front, I can live with the rest... Just is...

In a festival deal, I fully expect things to blow chunks at times... Any time you must have quick partial stage strikes and resets, good chance wheels are gonna fall off somewhere... Schedule can sometimes be wishful thinking and if IT gets bogged, the wheels start wobbling....
