Soundblox Pro Bass Envelope Filter

Every time I saved backpage settings within the preset, I'd go back in to make sure it was there, or switch to another preset, and when I went back, every time I found they reverted back to default. Honestly, I haven't spent enough time with it to make sure I was saving everything correctly. I was assuming it was going to be as easy as the MWB Pro, but I reaped the reward for assuming. Can't wait to go home and test more!

Have you got this figured out yet? For whatever reason, I can't seem to save presets on mine. I tweak the settings, dial in the sound, press and hold the switch until the LED stops blinking....but when I come back to the switch the setting is gone. I can't figure out what the hell I'm doing wrong.

Edited to add: and just like that, it works. I tried to save again and this time everything saved, including my backpage settings. Weird....lol. Don't ask me man, I'm just the bass player. :)

Hi Guys,
regarding the questions about the sequence editor: I could put together something quickly that would only be for Windows. We're still in the process of getting up and running with a general cross platform solution for our software so ...nothing yet for Mac.

Are enough of you non-Mac users to make a temporary version worthwhile?

Still waitng for my BEF Pro to show up out here at Bananas Music, but would like that editor.

Awesome, awesome jams. I especially like the first one...I can hear that Entwistle sounds in there. Some tones like in 'Join Together'. Was that even bass making the noise on that song or was it something Pete Townshend was doing?

Thanks! The Join Together stuff is I think Townshend on Jew's Harp, but he had some insane synth sounds going, especially the song Relay. I found some especially nice sounds last night. Sounded like cello underneath, and on top like R2-D2 sounds popping up, and intensifying with the expression pedal! However, I did have to use delay and reverb for the cello sounds, and found that adding just a hint of MWB "normal" distortion for a bit of fuzz made it sound super rad! Hopefully, I'll be able to add that cello-like R2-D2 stuff to that earlier clip of Close Encounters where the bass was completely obscured by all the synth stuff I added.

And to the question on backpage editing, like you, I did find it worked after originally thinking it didn't. I think my confusion came in where I had edited presets 5 & 6's backpage settings, but was looking for the changes in 2 & 3.

And to Jesse, right now I'm using a pc, but hoping to get a Mac soon, and will probably from that point on be using that for recording and interfacing, but as of now it's pc, but not yet recording with it. I need to get on that pronto.

And lastly, to gastric, thanks for your detailed page on the BEF Pro, I tweaked the Q to get that ridiculous R2-D2 setting!

Hey Will, can you post your settings to do the Hot Hand Wobble that you put in Slurple Gurp? I am messing around with it and I can only get about 70% of the way there.

Here are my exact notes from making the video:

Multiwave Pro
Multiband Foldback #7
25% Clean
50% Distortion
60% Drive

into

BEF Pro
2 Pole Low Pass #1
100% Wet (non Lo-Retain)
30% Frequency
100% Positive Sweep
50% Speed
Hot Hand mode
XC to #5 (Frequency)
XD to +6

The expression pedal is useful here for moving the range of the Hot Hand around. Sometimes you want to get a real hairy sound at the top end of the wobble/swell and other times you want to get a really deep scoop. The expression pedal gives you a broader range to play with and more control over the precise tones.

Yes non Mac user here

Is that Bananas at Large on 4th street, San Rafael? I have fond memories of that store. Still have a great custom single 15" I bought there in 1978.

So I just spent about an hour with my new BEF Pro. Anyone want to buy a Guyatone Ultron? Groove regulator?

I will only be keeping my Prometheus, cause of the crazy unpredictability of that thing, and my 105Q, cause I love the way it shuts off when you take your foot off, but I'm done with all other filters, past, present, and...... well.... who knows what the future holds. The BEF pro has just gwiggled me into submission.

Okay,
I'll clean up the version of the Windows only editor I have now and post it on the website. It won't look like anything special but it will work!

Several months ago I thought my filter acquisition days had finally ended with my Mutron III, Octavius and Source Audio BEF. I knew I had the best "for me" filters available, one uber old school, on with presets and one with the masterpiece of filtering that is effect 16... then I saw Will's video.

This changes everything....not fair!

I'm getting a pro BEF and I'm considering the pro bmwd, but I already have a VT Deluxe and Prunes&Custard and I'm not a huge fan of digital distortion - and its a lot of money.

Who can talk me out of getting it?
How does the BEF sound with non MWDistortion?

I recently picked up the BEF Pro and there's no way I would talk you out of it. It is BY FAR the most versatile envelope filter I've ever used and the presets alone make the Pro version worth the extra bucks, imo. I also just got the BMWD Pro last night but haven't done anything with it yet (but will this weekend).

In terms of non-mwd distortion with the BEF Pro....off the hook! I'll post sound clips this weekend which will give you some idea of the absolutely filthy tones I've been coming up with when adding some Bass Big Muff and/or MXR Blow Torch distortions to the BEF. I meant to record some clips yesterday but spent too much time just playing with and changing settings that I never stopped to take the time to record.

I hear what you're saying about not being a fan of digital as I've been in that camp before....but the bottom line is good tones are good tones, whether digital or analog and these pedals sound amazing. So if you've got the ability to give one a test drive, I would highly recommend it.

I'm dead set on the BEF Pro (which I'm about to order online), but there's no MWD shop to try it out in for over a thousand miles, for a week at least.

The best deal I can find (ToneFactor) won't have the distortion in stock for a couple of weeks, but their shipping is cheap so I can just get it later.

Next question is Hot Hands/Exp pedal. Must have? Is either one better than the other? Could I use my Earthquake Wah as an exp pedal?

Ahhh, after re-reading your post I see that your question was really about the MWD. I bought mine purely based on how much I love the BEF Pro and my confidence in what I'll be able to accomplish with the two pedals together. I figured that at minimum I would get a programable EQ since even if I couldn't find a single usable distortion (which will be highly unlikely), I could just use the presets to dial in EQ settings on the non-distorted channel. I am also keeping my analog distortions on my board as in my case, its not an either/or decision. I plan to use both MW distortions and analog distortions.
