Will the Neuro Module be available for DIY retrofit, or would that only be possible through the factory or 'authorized' techs? How might someone become such an authorized technician? Will the modules be available for development purposes?

So many questions...

I think we will start with the pedal makers and see how that goes first. If all is smooth and easy, then "authorized" techs might be next. We do not want to create something we cannot reasonably support. It was somewhat tricky getting the 3 MXR pedals to work right.

(1) Could this conceivably control an internal dipswitch?

(2) What happens if you bump a knob after loading a scene? Does it immediately go to the new position or is there a "catchup"?

I can't see why not.

It would depend on the implementation. This is why I think it is important for us to work with the pedal companies rather than 100s of individual DYI projects.
 
I am definitely not curious for DIY reasons. But one of my favorite pedals, the Empress Multidrive, is dying for something like this. It has 10 knobs, 5 toggle switches, 6 internal dipswitches, and 2 footswitches.

Whoa. That seriously looks like a massive game changer. Looking forward to seeing the progress of this. I'd like to implement it in my Foxrox Octron one day.

Maybe this is a really dumb question, but would this also work with digital pedals? Such as implementing it in existing multi-fx units that don't already have MIDI control, or perhaps on stuff that lets you save presets like some of the TC Electronics pedals.

As I read somewhere, the Neuro Module is probably one of the most significant advances in pedal technology in a while.
I mean, the whole SA offer is differentiating but (and I am not counting the Hot Hand here) it is all evolutionary, new and better algorithms and processing power. The concept of creating a whole control infrastructure and then offering to open it to other manufacturers instead of closing the ecosystem is completely new as far as I know.

EDIT - The new neuro concept reminds me of the industrial protocols like CANopen, DeviceNet, etc

I am very happy with MXR collaboration since I love my MXR compressor. Other one I would like is Electro Harmonix

This is a very exciting product, hopefully this will generate support from the effects manufacturing industry as a whole. I trust that SA has done some market research, fleshed out a business plan for this product, and has established some early agreements with other effects manufacturers to offer this in the near future. Even better, it would be great if some type of aftermarket modification business becomes available that can support adding this module to our favorite effects units.

After seeing this product announcement, I think we all had thoughts of “I want that in my xxx pedal”. Hopefully this can be a reality sooner than later.

Not wanting to go into much (probably boring) detail, while the behavior is similar in many regards, MIDI has been taken as a protocol you either have on your product or don't. On the other hand, when you look at industrial protocols, the most common way to do things is to have expansion slots where you can add your protocol of choice. This is why I saw the similarities, the Neuro can be added to other products to make them Neuro Compatible. With MIDI I have not seen this kind of devices. (excluding stuff like MIDI to VCO and MIDI controlled loopers)
But if you know of such kind of devices please send me a PM, I'd love to know.
 


So the L.A. Lady is an overdrive and the Mercury is a Flanger. I'm kind of curious, re: previous discussions, which one might be consider a new effect not covered by the SB2 series, and which one is more of a guitar effect. (I'm paraphrasing our esteemed el presidente on both of those points.)
 
Tremolo is in the Oribtal, but it is a "hidden" feature and can be added to any of the other algorithms. It seems the Vertigo flips that concept, making the tremolo the main effect with ability to add other modulation.

I had assumed the Vertigo was essentially just another port of the Orbital like the Gemini, Mercury and Lunar, but based on rsmith601 comment, maybe not? Whatever the case, we now have 3(or 4) One Series pedals that are basically the same as one SB2, only with hidden controls and no tap tempo.
