source audio c4

Hello guys,
while looking for a MIDI control to combine with my C4, my eyes went on the Blackstar Live logic USB MIDI controller, as it pleasures all my footswitch needs (4 preset switch, 2 bank up/down switch)..
Any helpful info about the 2 items combined? The pedalboard has MIDI in out and an USB option (altough i'm not sure is used for power supply or usb MIDI input), so my toughts are about how to link the 2 devices:

- From the C4 USB - to the Blackstar USB controller (with proper adapter);
- From the C4 USB - to a USB to MIDI adapter - to the pedalboard's MIDI out
- From the C4 USB - to the SA neuro hub - to the pedalboard's MIDI out

Thanks to anyone who helps me and sorry for the spaghetti english

I don’t think it will work, the language in the manual isn’t very clear on if it can act as a usb midi host (just an interface, not the same), and the examples in the manual don’t show it as a midi host. Very few midi controllers are able to act as a usb host, disaster area gen3 controllers have been for a while. They’re does seem to be some newer ones trying to take this step. The airstep from Xsonic, seems to be one, should be able to say for sure soon, as I’m probably going to pick one up in the next week. That’s about the only all in one solutions that I know of. Otherwise you’ll need to get a midi controller, and a usb midi host device, like from Kenton, disaster area, or midiplus.

Questions for C4 users.. for those that use multiple pedals, or have an "always on" pedal and the Editor. Just out of curiosity...

When you program new patches do you run bass > C4 > interface?

Or do you incorporate other pedals into your signal that affects your finished patch - i.e. a compressor or preamp? For example.. bass > C4 > compressor/preamp > interface.. Or preamp/comp etc before the C4.

Bass > C4 > Interface for me, but... my interface is an HX Stomp. My main Stomp patch(es) have a general always on Comp and EQ and I have an "After Synth" patch that has various Delays, Reverbs, and Choruses, but I do turn everything off to program C4 patches as the idea is for them to function on their own, because I know not everyone runs the same setup. THEN I add back in MY comp/EQ, and/or effects from my after synth patch for added authenticity or flavor. (But I think I added a note in a couple of my Neuro patches here or there like "try adding chorus")

So I guess the TLDR would be:
For Neuro: Bass > C4 > Interface
For me: Bass > C4 > Comp/EQ > Delay/Reverb/Chorus

5sg.

Hey guys and gals!

I have a c4 in the mail. I haven't read through all of the posts yet, but I was wondering if it's possible to do something...

I'd like to split output 1 and 2 completely, i.e. have one set of effects go out of 1, and have a thicc distortion/overdrive go to output 2. Without blending the two.. is this possible?

Input bass - output 1 normal (whatever c4 effects I'm planning on using. - output 2 simply fully wet OD.

Yes!

The C4 has turned into a board killer! In a good way... I've been able to eliminate 5 pedals from my chain. I did another deep dive into Zach Riser's video a few more times and things started to open up and make much more sense. I now use my old laptop to run the Neuro app - the old dog is still good for something! This way works a #$%& of a lot better than trying to go from amp to PC to amp and back and forth and ... yikes, lol. :banghead: :D

The C4 officially knocked the Boss SY-1 off the board today. I spent hours trying to match my SY-1 sounds to the C4 editor - and honestly most, if not all of them are better than the SY-1. I even came up with a suitable (for me, :roflmao:) fast rotary organ patch that comes *close-ish* to what I was using with Organ Setting #4 on the SY-1. It's not a perfect match, but a "close enough vibe" I think.... gonna try it in the live set tonight. If it works, I'll share the patch to the community on the app. I couldn't find an existing one I liked for my needs.

Quick question here from someone who doesn’t have time to skim through 114 pages....

How is the bypass tone?
im not big on buffers but I see that it has a “relay based true bypass”.

Absolutely none of my guitar rig pedalboards have any in them...
ALL of them have 3DPDT Switches in them so I’m extremely unfamiliar.

thanks a ton!

Quick answer -- nobody here has any issue with the bypass on any of our SA pedals. YMMV.

I would argue that 3DPDT switch has more capacitance than a small relay switch, so more likely to be a tone-sucker. The other bonus is you can switch from true bypass to buffered bypass is you wish. At this point, I would say it is very proven technology.

Hi, I just wanted to post this here in case anyone ever googles for the same issue I had: My phone was able to connect Neuro app with the C4 but for some reason was not able to capture all the edits done in the android Neuro app and was not able to burn the presets. It was definitelly my phone's fault - there is some default sound shaping app that cannot be uninstalled. However I purchased the cheapest bluetooth receiver I could find and when connected via bluetooth I have 0 issues, it all works great. So if you ever have any trouble with Android Neuro app, maybe just try to buy $10 bluetooth receiver.

Also, shout out to the SA support team that worked with me on resolving it and were really helpful with their answers.

This is awesome news! Some of the Bluetooth receivers can also mess up the audio, so I am really happy this was seemless for you. :) I will thank the support team!!

IME, thru my live and recording rig, I do not notice any tone suck, neither using the true bypass option nor the buffered bypass.

In the end, considering the fact that the C4 let me kick 3 pedals off my board, that meant it shortened the length between bass and amp, which IMO is usually a good move.

I did NOT get a controller for the patches as there seems to be many choices.

Is there a controller that "sits on top" of all options or is it all just about preferred taste?

I'd like to have something practical, reliable, and easy to use.

Thanks again!

Further piggybacking on this thread: Am I the only one planning to use the Android/iOS Neuro App library as a preset switcher during gigs? In the past few months when looking into C4 everyone always mentioned how there is 6 presets available on the C4 or 128 if you use midi. I bought C4 and wasn't sure if I'll be fine with just 6 at hand or if I'll eventually have to buy a midi switcher too. But now that I trialed it for several days I feel like saving presets in Neuro App library section in a certain order and putting my phone/tablet on a music stand next to me is actually quite a clean solution. You do need to take your hand away from the bass but it's just one quick click and C4 does what you need immediatelly (and frankly, you would still need to take your hand away from the bass if you'd have wanted to switch between 6 presets on C4 anyway).
And then if you have 2 presets that you definitelly need to be able to switch with your foot quickly, you can set the footswitch to switch between those with a longer press.

I mean, I feel like I am describing something that every C4 owner or potential buying probably knows about but for me this was a huge discovery which I didn't consider or read about before buying.

My top choices are the Disaster Area DMCs and the Source Audio Soleman + Neuro Hub.

I'm a Soleman user myself and have no complaints about it.
It's integrated to a bigger system controlling stuff on my computer and changing patches on my moog, etc, alongside with changing C4 presets.

If I was just restricted to C4 preset hopping, I'd probably go with something more portable, like DA's micro series.

I'm very new to the C4 but I went with the DMC micro myself. Our catalog of material is huge, the BL is usually the only one with a setlist so I have to be ready on the fly. Right now I'm at 8 patches and I velcro a list to my board with the number/song name. Seems to work! I can imagine once I get upwards of 20+ patches I'm going to have to somehow strategically order them so its not a tap dancing issue. Cat plays no role in patch switching, btw. :D

The C4 crushed last night - outperformed the now-booted SY-1 by a longshot. Last night was the first gig with all my sounds being set to the C4 after kicking the SY-1 to the curb. I used to have sounds split between the two pedals, but had issues with the Boss SY-1 - there's no way to swap patches without bending over and tweaking knobs. Just killed the flow of an "on the fly" set. The only thing I miss is the "hold" function the SY-1 had, but I can live with that.

Someone came up at break and complemented me on one of my sounds, "dude when you made that (whatever patch I was on), it sounded sick!!".. That never happened with the SY-1, lol. People actually noticed the bass player last night - considering we are a three piece, well... uh, yeah... :roflmao:

It is possible to do a hold-type function on the C4; I managed it but you need to be able to send a few MIDI CCs. I posted examples back I summer - use the search tool and search for “freeze” within this thread, filtering by my username and you should find it.

Ok thanks, I'll take a look!
