source audio c4

Is there a reason why people tend to run their C4 into the effects loop of their HX Stomp? I've just got mine at the beginning of the chain, running into my Stomp. Should it be placed within the effects loop? I've never used it before lol

Also having the C4 in the loop let's you incorporate it in snapshots... as far as having a constant input level goes, you could also incorporate a mild compressor block before the efx send to the C4 ... both on in one snapshot, off in another.

so multiple things going on, 1 switch, no tap dance. You could get there through extrrnal midi as well of course.

Questions for C4 users.. for those that use multiple pedals, or have an "always on" pedal and the Editor. Just out of curiosity...

When you program new patches do you run bass > C4 > interface?

Or do you incorporate other pedals into your signal that affects your finished patch - i.e. a compressor or preamp? For example.. bass > C4 > compressor/preamp > interface.. Or preamp/comp etc before the C4.

Yeah for sure if I’m making something I plan to use live at some point (so far only a couple of the patches I’ve built), then I build the patches while using my rig and with the C4 in its spot within it. I am usually building patches plugged straight into a live amp though (no interface). The amp rig is as much a part of my live tone as my pedalboard ultimately, so patches have to jive well with its inherent quirks too.

This is the answer I've been looking for. I'm only making patches for live use at this point. My phone is an older Moto droid, it's not great at being able to build a patch - no headphone jack and the dongle just sucks. So far, I've been bringing my board to the PC, isolating the C4 and creating a patch. Then when I go back to the amp, of course it sounds different.

I wasn't sure what folks were doing, I've asked a couple people about how to have the patches created on the editor translate better to the amp, no one gave me a straight answer. I'll try to create one running through the board, I just got the diamond bass comp jr and I use it as an "always on" pedal. Maybe I will have better success this way.

I guess since using my phone is out, that might have to be my solution. Otherwise I was thinking about trying this .. bass > board > amp > DI post-eq out to interface (have D800+, WD800 - DI is killer).

Anyone tried that?

Hi guys,

I think I need some help with understanding how Neuro app for phone works.
I managed to make it communicate with the pedal but some things I just can't understand.
For example I can go to community presets, double tap a preset at which point when I play my bass, it's using that preset, awesome. However when I swipe that preset left and select Burn and then select a preset space (e.g. User Preset 7), it does not burn the preset to the c-4. What am I missing?

Another thing I don't get: I open Neuro app > C4 - this will open the editor, but the editor does not reflect what the actual preset that is used at that point looks like (e.g. I know the input gain of the active preset is 110 but the neuro app shows input gain is 64). Then when I actually change something (e.g. said input gain) the whole preset is screwed up, as if I am starting from the scratch? Is that the case? And if so, where can I load presets that are in my c4? I did not find presets from my C4 anywhere in the neuro app.
Back to the last example: Let's say I create something from the scratch and want to burn it into the pedal with burn button in the editor screen, again I choose a preset space (e.g. user preset 10) and it does not actually store it there.

Hardware options are not corresponding with what I set in desktop app either. So is c4 using what I set in desktop app or phone app? It seems like it uses a desktop app options (e.g. true vs buffered bypass) but then what are the options in phone app for?

I am quite sure it's working as intended and I am just missing something. Anyone knows the answers for my question? I'd be much obliged.

Obviously I am a bit confused with the app but other than that this pedal delivers! It's so awesome, I can't believe the sounds I am getting out of it.

The Phone Neuro app only sends info to the pedal it does not receive info back from the pedal. For full interaction you will need to connect via MIDI usb to a computer or tablet running Neuro.

Thanks, does that mean that it is not possible to burn into pedal from neuro app (phone)? Or see the presets in your C4 from your phone app?
You can burn from the mobile app to the pedal.

If you load a preset via the phone (from the cloud or your library) then you’ll be able to see the settings on the phone. What you can’t do, as someone has already mentioned, is change preset on the pedal itself via the toggle switch and have that be reflected in the mobile app. However, you can do this when using the desktop as communication is two-way.

Make sure you have the lastest iOS version, desktop version and pedal firmware installed. If you’re still having problems after that then get in touch with SA support and they’ll get you up and running.

Thank you, that makes sense. In that case I guess only thing that I still don't understand how to do is burning into the pedal using the app. You are saying it is possible but how? When I select the burn button and select the slot I want to burn into, it still doesn't burn. This is working as expected in desktop app, but in mobile it just never burns anything into the pedal and its slots. I am using latest update of the pedal software and the app software.

How are you verifying that burning via the app isn’t working? (The name of the preset will not appear in the list on mobile after writing because, as said, communication is one way only. It should however be visible when connecting to the desktop.)

That is how I am verifying it. The process goes like this: Connect phone to c4 via cable > do the calibration and make sure it works (e.g. double tap a preset from browse > community > make sure the correct sounds are coming from the amp) > Select burn button > Select User preset 7 (as an example) > check mark is displayed next to user preset 7 for a second before the "Select BURN destination" is closed > Connect c4 to the desktop app > Observe the issue - Nothing on user preset 7 slot.

When I double tap the Send All, or preset from the community etc. small led on the c4 blinks once and I can hear the correct sound or see the correct things in editor in desktop app. However when I try to burn, the led never blinks. I will try tomorrow with my wife's iphone. Maybe it's just my poopy android phone. Sort of hope it is. Definitely don't want to return it just because of this issue.

So, my situation is having my pedalboard running to my home rig, which is close enough to my gig rig that it's pretty reliable. But then I'll run a long USB cord (not that long, my apartment is the size of a Ford Excursion) from C4 to PC, and edit while testing the sounds thru the amplifier. I also have only one neighbor, who's a musician, so the rumbles from my rig are paid for by some latin dancehall tracks, and we get along great. Not the case for most of us, I know.

DI post-EQ is also very useful, but if you want to really replicate the sound of a whole amp & cabinet (mic'd cabinet, especially) setup without having to crush your neighbors with huge epic tones... you might be in the market for a good cab simulator/impulse response solution. Two Notes, Shift Line, NuX, and a number of other makers have pedals (Two Notes a massive & robust one) that run cab sims, and it can get intricate with setting one up that matches a particular sound you especially like. I don't know much about these things, but apparently IRs (impulse responses) are the cat's knees for getting the sound dialed in accurately.

Since I've had my C4, I've had zero actual chances to use it in a live or pro studio setting. However, it has been a crowd favorite in jam sessions, and features in some very chill solo ambient soundscape things I post on IG from time to time.

Tonight, it was very limited, but I managed to put a tailored envelope filter to work on a track with a six-piece group with which I've been playing for a while at a veerrryy cool studio. Pretty fast and wet, but dropped down to like 20% of the signal mix, so it was just a hint of wump wump wump added to my sound. I liked it, the band liked it, the engineer liked it. And I was SO glad the Mix control was hardcoded to the pedal! The envelope was set at 100% in the editor, so without that, it'd have been a wash.

Saturday, I'll be part of a video recording featuring an overdrive into EXP-controlled filter on a track (accompanied by reverb/delay also via MIDI), and a very light drive on another, all handled on the C4. It's kinda tricked me into programming my own multi FX environment, and I don't mind. Sounds so good.

Hello guys,
while looking for a MIDI control to combine with my C4, my eyes went on the Blackstar Live logic USB MIDI controller, as it pleasures all my footswitch needs (4 preset switch, 2 bank up/down switch)..
Any helpful info about the 2 items combined? The pedalboard has MIDI in out and an USB option (altough i'm not sure is used for power supply or usb MIDI input), so my toughts are about how to link the 2 devices:

- From the C4 USB - to the Blackstar USB controller (with proper adapter);
- From the C4 USB - to a USB to MIDI adapter - to the pedalboard's MIDI out
- From the C4 USB - to the SA neuro hub - to the pedalboard's MIDI out

Thanks to anyone who helps me and sorry for the spaghetti english

What I do is SA Soleman with external 2 button DIY switch to SA Neuro Hub via midi, TRRS from Hub to C4 (and my other SA pedals). That is my live 'operating' setup.

In my practice/project space I also cable each pedal to a USB hub and connect that to my laptop for programming.

One nicety of the Soleman is that you can create descriptive names for your patches rather than some code number.

The programming UI is a little clunky with everything in one window but it's solid and it works just fine.

Overall I'm surprised that the Soleman doesn't get more love here.

Thank you for this. I tried running it with my amp near to my PC and kept getting a massive buzz through my amp - I'm 100% sure its an outlet issue, I'll have to try that again. I don't know if I'm ready to invest in an IR setup but yeah, I'll keep all of that in mind as well. I use the C4 on about 5 songs in the set as of now, the sounds I've created ended up working out great once I got them dialed (which took a LOT of back and forth amp to PC). I actually stack it with the Boss SY-1 on a couple things, the Boss has the hold function which allows me to hold the root or whatever and then play over top. You get some really nifty sounds that way. For example I'll hold a note with an organ setting on the SY-1 and then a filter setting on the C4 played over top.

I may add modulation or ambient effects but my C4 sounds are intended to be direct to PA monitor or recorder. My approach or mindset is I run a bass rig, synth rig and a guitar rig and blend the three together as needed.
