source audio c4

Got it. So just to be clear to everyone, the C4 is NOT the limitation here. It is the device that is receiving and parsing the MIDI messages. The Hub has limitations on bursts of messages when it is used with the C4. The SA168 MIDI Adapter does not.
I’ll have to revisit some C4 patches and try to test this

I am running out of room on my C4, crazy I am down to less than 6 empty slots after todays new sounds. Will have to journey through and see what I can save to the cloud but that always leads to new sounds. Oh the horror.

Thank you.
Communicating with the C4 Pedal over USB HID using this library. No MIDI involved.

wow that's great! i've been working on a similar project for a while, trying to parse the usb data into MAX but it's all just a little over my head. do you have any tips for trying this on a PC?

That is most cool!

Hi there,

Wanted to thank guys for your support with getting my new Morning star MC6 pro going, with my C4 and UW, via neuro hub. Particularly @Quatschmacher and @moley6knipe.

New to MIDI, I'm now pretty operational with the setup and really enjoying the quicker access to navigating & combining presets. Discovering some awesome combinations of C4 with UW, which I might not have got round to, with just the Neuro Desktop.

Just got something I'd appreciate some help with:

Ive recently found things not quite performing quite as well, since a firmware & software update with Morningstar? I have banks of presets with, say 3 UW and 3 C4 (one cc'd to recall a pedal preset for each button on the MC6), enabling me to toggle on/off either a single preset. So I can have button A with C4 preset 1 and can then add button D with UW preset 3, for example. Within the bank, I have assigned 2 buttons for extra function with long press - to bank jump. So some buttons have several cc messages.

Recently, there has been some erratic behaviour though. Sometimes it takes a delay for the preset to show 'engaged' ie my assigned LED colour change doesnt happen for several seconds. Or other times, the bank displayed will jump back to my 'homepage' bank 1.

Having read @rsmith601 post above "So just to be clear to everyone, the C4 is NOT the limitation here. It is the device that is receiving and parsing the MIDI messages. The Hub has limitations on bursts of messages when it is used with the C4." Could that mean the MC6 buttons are 'struggling' with more than 1 cc assigned??

Or have I misunderstood?

I am not using the Hub for pc, just as an 'interface' for cc from MC6 to C4 and UW.

Thanks for any clarification!

Hopefully I am not misleading anyone! @Quatschmacher knows these issues very well.

That sounds like an MC6 issue. There is no MIDI feedback, so the MC6 doesn't know when the MIDI message is received and acted on so even if the C4 was having issues the MC6 would not be aware of it. A usual cause of sluggishness with MIDI devices is a full loop being created, causing too much MIDI traffic. Could this be possible with your setup?

Thanks.
My set up is C4 > Neuro Hub > MC6pro

So my question would be what is too much MIDI traffic?
For the one preset, there are 2 cc msgs to toggle switch (with quick press) plus 1 cc msg for bank change (long press). Surely thats not too much? 1 preset on the MC6 can have up to 32 cc msgs within software.

If thats not excessive, then could the Hub be the 'weak' link - as mentioned by @rcsmith:

That’s not a loop, so that isn’t an issue. If your MC6 is struggling then it has an issue, there is nothing the hub or C4 can do to cause issues on your MC6. You can unplug the cable from your MC6 and I suspect it will behave the same way.

It’s the Hub, as Roger already mentioned. Simultaneous CCs don’t always get through reliably. One can program a short delay on the subsequent messages in the MC6 to allow them to be properly read by the Hub.

He said that the MC6 is slow to update after selecting a preset and that it sometimes jumps back to bank 1 for no reason, unless I misunderstood, which I could have.

Hmm, I wonder if there is a delay programmed or other stuff. I’d recommend hooking up to midimonitor.com and checking the timestamps of the messages being sent.
As for going back to bank 1, I’d be checking to see what messages are programmed; perhaps a bank or utility message has been programmed by mistake.

I use an MC6 Pro (was using an MC6) with the hub, C4 and Bass UW as well as many other midi controlled pedals.
I have had my share of midi issues.
My latest ended up being a bad TRS cable for an aux switch that I use to bank up and down and page switch on the MC6 P.
That bad cable played all kinds of havoc on my midi set up.
Things I have found useful when using the S/A hub. Put the hub last in the midi chain , This had the greatest impact on many of my issues. I'm not sure why it matters, I just know that it solved some issues I had a long time ago. I have since moved to a midi splitter as opposed to daisy chaining my midi cables.
I haven't read the whole post so some of this may have been covered.
Do you have midi cables running out of the MC6 and back into itself? If so, make sure Midi thru is off.
Also, for reasons unknown to me the order / construction of my midi messages on the MC6 mattered. What order I put things in while building presets.
It could be an unknown bug in the Morningstar firmware. Is it a new final firmware or a Beta.
Maybe check out the Morningstar forum. James is very helpful and very quick to respond.
Midi can be finicky and drive you crazy but when you get it working to your needs it's great.
