I got my C4 six years ago, and though I spent quite some time playing with it at home, I never found it particularly useful at gigs. At some point, I felt like I couldn't really get the "target" tone I was after with it. So it sat on a shelf for a while. More about me & my tastes than anything about the pedal. Slowly, over the subsequent years, I acquired other SA pedals: EQ2, Atlas, LA Lady, Gemini, and Ventris-- with a goal of making a really versatile live rig both for guitar & bass.

I ended up actually needing an envelope filter and octaver for some show, so I re-visited my C4. I realized that with it's great bass tracking, octaving capabilities, staggering variety of filter types, distortion, and envelope tweaking abilities-- it needed to go to the front of my pedal chain. Pedal board is too short. So glad I kept it.

The signal path (and data control plan) is still a work in progress, but it's a super versatile rig.

Happy New Year C4 users!

Quick question that's been puzzling me for quite a while but keep forgetting to post:

How /why does the envelope filter still have an effect even when Envelop OFF is selected under voice options ??

Example with @Quatschmacher 's excellent QM Mu-Tron Micro-Tron IV 11

Just one voice employed, routed through filter. But, tweaking envelop 1 sensitivity has a pronounced effect ...... (which I like btw)

I dont understand......Any advice much appreciated, cheers

Sorry, update to previous post above.... It's tweaking the envelope Speed which has a clear effect (when envelope is switched off).

It may be using the other envelope from the one whose speed you were adjusting. Or you may have disabled the envelope on a different voice.

If that’s not the case and the envelope “off” setting isn’t working, then it needs reporting to @rsmith601

I play mostly jazz & funk fusion bass. heres a list of community presets I am using -- I have a DMC to switch 100 presets. on all my presets I set the 2nd control knob to be output volume and put pedal into preset mode. this makes it much easier to A/B the wet and dry signals because yeah a lot of the community presets are ridiculously loud . some of these are spectrum presets also

Well I have only had the C4 for a couple of months and I have only had the opportunity to use it 2x so far on funk/rock/fusion Big band gigs, so I just wrote on my chart the preset name and number and switched it between tunes. if you set the DMC for a certain preset it will hold it between reboots and set the pedal for that when they start up. I admit I am finding the hundred presets are a lot of presets, and I might narrow it down to like 50 --right now too preset 002-042 are synth bass and the others are "FX-only". but I may organize them better in the future. . for those interested, here is my latest C4 backup file with an emphasis on bass synths and FX. none of these have sequencer or harmonizer. not all the patches have been completely tweaked as far as output goes, maybe like 50% of them-I am still in the process. if you want to quickly try out all these, just load up this file, but use at your own risk - I am not responsible for bricking your pedal. I would backup your pedal before loading. I backup my C4 every time I make a bunch of major changes because I have had it lose my presets, especially if you turn it off, then on again quickly. it doesn't like that!!. I kind of wish SA would provide some curated presets as backup files for guitar and bass for C4 like they do for the bass multiwave, but maybe some experienced users can post some backup files here we can load up and try out their patches? rename the file davesbass C4 6.2.osbf.txt to davesbass C4 6.2.osbf and load it with Neuro desktop

For songs which I use 2-3 patches, I may duplicate patches on additional presets. For example, if I use a synth patch and octave patch at different times on one song, and a envelope patch and octave patch on a different song, I will create 2-4 additional patches with duplicate FX right next to each other. With so many parameters to build presets with on the C4 , it's easy to build a huge collection and suffer option overload!

I've got nearly the full 127 presets stored on the pedal. Try to keep in blocks, according to type eg octaves, envelopes etc. I've learnt to be disciplined.... If I discover or create a new exciting preset, then I have to delete one that I rarely use, to make space to store it.

For what it's worth, I'm pleased I invested in the Morningstar MC6 Pro. Can assign presets to a designated coloured block - I have 6 groups as below. Navigate from that screen (each group has a stomp button by it), into each group section of presets.

For band set lists, I have another section, with easy stepping from song to song in sequence.

For songs which I use 2-3 patches, I may duplicate patches on additional presets. For example, if I use a synth patch and octave patch at different times on one song, and a envelope patch and octave patch on a different song, I will create 2-4 additional patches with duplicate FX right next to each other. I have a DMC Micro Pro and I will label everything accordingly.

hey on your DMC micro do you have it set so all the patches engage the pedal or bypass it? thats one thing that bugs me about it- you can only set each preset to bypass or engage individually. if you set them all to engage you can quickly hear all the presets but it always engages the pedal on power on. which i hate. if you set them all to bypass it does not engage the switch on power up, but you can scroll through presets with the pedal off.
they need to have more options. like an option that lets you have all presets set to engage but does not engage the pedal on power on, global engage/bypass all patches so you dont have to click each one individually . etc

Yeah, the range of functionality is pretty cool. Couldn't do without it now.

I like using the C4 in combination with the Ultrawave. So I have displayed banks of say C4 subs with UW compressors or different fuzzes. Just stomp on the assigned foot switch and the 'in use' sub switches off and different sub comes on. Commands are signed to One click. Or 1 click for switching both C4 and UW together.
Stomp on 2 switches together for navigating through different banks.
Doesn't matter what order presets are on the pedals - using the preset number.

i also have the dmc micro and love it’s simplicity. Being a midi novice it worked perfectly for switching presets on my SA pedals along with the neuro hub but it is pretty limited in what it can do. That being said I have heard great things about the MC6. How hard is it to program and do you still need the neuro hub? What types of things can the MC6 do that the DMC can’t?

MC6 does more of everything. Controls more than 4 devices and offers a wider variety of midi command types. Wider variety of button press types and the menu screen scrolling is configurable. The MC6 pro offers USB host so the hub shouldn't be necessary (haven't tested this myself yet and tbf the newest DMC micro v4 now has this feature). Programming is also a web interface with a slightly steeper learning curve just because of all the additional possibilities.

Mc6 is quite the treat for deep midi nerds like me.

Without nerding out, there is a lot of complex programming possible with the mc6. Some of these switches are using all 32 messages within there presets, and on average around 20 messages per switch (lots of combinations of positions, shift, r press, long press, double tap, long double tap). No other midi controller comes close in my opinion, and this is coming from using a dmc micro gen4, soleman, airstep, and reflex all at the same time previous to the mc6 and pednetics aux 8.
