Source Audio Club-

The MIDI clock has it's advantage because you can precisely sync up with another track or device if you know it's tempo. You can try to do that with tap tempo, but human error will always show itself after a few cycles.

The user manual is pretty straightforward. The pedal itself can be used in a very simple straight forward manner without really having to read the manual. About the only thing that you would need to get out of the manual is how to save your presets.

Of course you can really dig into the manual and the functionality of the pedal and the results will be quiet rewarding.

I have a gig tomorrow night for the first time since I've recieved the BEF PRO. Looking forward to getting some good use out of it. I really like the presets!

Here is a quick ad-hoc clip I threw together leveraging the single peak filters set with very low resonance, range (sweep) set to 12:00 for a static filter, and expression pedal controlling the frequency.

Depending on the settings this can make a good sounding bass wah effect. Note that even at low resonance the sub-bass frequencies can rumble as you will hear. Simply adjust the Frequency knob to the lower range of the sweep you want, then the expression can sweep upward from there. You have full control as to the maximum upward sweep of the expression pedal via the Backpage settings. Signal chain is a simple GT-10B Bass Distortion into the BEF Pro then into a GT-10B Ampeg SVT sim, clean tone is at the end.

Note that I never use bass wah. So I'm sure someone else could provide a much more clever demo. But this should give you some ideas. :)

For those of you itching to see what the BEFPro is looking like. (Can't remember if I saw pics in previous replies or not). These images were included in the Source Audio Newsletter Email.

So the common theme of all the Pro models is the 6 presets and the EQ. That is nice.

I would officially like to ask the SA folks to combine a Tuner with the EQ pedal, even if it means waiting a few extra months for the pedal. The tuner is such a nice pedal to have on the board, convenient, but it takes up the space of a whole pedal.

I can haz BEF! w00t!

See that spot on the right where the tuner and EQ are? That spot is going to be filled with an MXR M-108 here soon, but only until the SA EQ & Tuner are released. :D And then won't my small bass board look so much neater?

I am waiting to remove the rubber feet and applying the velcro until I am sure of the location of the pedals.

I hate to take this discussion off topic from new pedals and such, but my BEF is acting up and I'm curious if I should contact the store I bought it from or contact someone at Source Audio.

Specifically I'm having power issues. I'm running off batteries currently and have two problems. The first is, about half of the time when I plug my cables in the unit doesn't power up. I need to unplug and plug back in the instrument cables a few times before it finally powers up.

A new issue has popped up now where some times, after using the pedal for a bit, when I switch it off it powers off. I then need to unplug and plug the instrument cables a few times before it powers on again.

Hopefully that description makes sense as to the nature of my problems.

I love this pedal (though it looks like I'll need to upgrade to the PRO sooner.. man that pedal sounds sweet) and I want it to work flawlessly, since now I can't trust it in a live situation.

Let me know guys, thanks.

Have you tried replacing the batteries or plugging in a power supply?

I have not tried replacing the batteries (seems obviously though eh). I don't have a power supply yet, and I'd rather this not be a case where I have to use a power supply (though I will eventually be getting a power supply for this and all my pedals.. I'm just not there yet).

I'll replace the batteries and report back tonight. Sorry if I jumped the gun on my problem solving.

Hey Pat,

You can get a onespot pedal power supply for around $20-$25 US down here. Not sure the conversion for you up there, but I'm sure it's still affordable either way. The one spot is frowned upon because it's a daisy chain style power supply, but it will power your BEF and the VT Bass just fine. So, for the price of 2-4 packs of batteries, you can have a cheapo power supply and cut the battery quirks out forever. Best wishes Pat and Congrats on the big election win! (Yes, I read the articles you sent me)

So I threw in some brand new fresh out of the package batteries and found I had the same issue with it not always powering up when inserting my instrument cable. For the sake of attempting to be more thorough than I was the last time I posted I tried switching out my cable. That seems to have resolved that specific issue.

Right now I'm just using a bunch of super cheap pedal cables between my pedals. When using my nicer Planet Waves instrument cables on the pedal it works every time. Not exactly sure what the difference is between the two, but whatever, as long as it's working and it's not the pedal that's failing.

Once I got that figured out I played for about 20 minutes with the pedal on and engaged and shut it off and got no power failure as I was getting before. So, at this point I think I have to say that all issues were not pedal related.

Sorry I wasn't this thorough with my self diagnosis the first time.

PFD, thanks for the congrats.. we are still in a bit of shock with our big win.. crazy times! Fingers crossed this isn't a flash in the pan and things will only continue to get better for us :) (and I'm still loving that VT Bass!)

Ahh yes, the old cable problem. Sorry I did not mention that. Many battery powered pedals (including ours) use the input plug to power up. If that plug is not clean, it will not power on the pedal reliably. Glad that the problem is solved!
