Source Audio Programmable EQ

This is one of those things where you try to balance giving as much power to the user and hoping that you do not confuse things.

So, when you go into bass mode and activate the low freq band, ALL 8 BANDS ARE ACTIVE. You can see that when you scroll up, you bump off the lowest freq band from the display and when you scroll down you are bumping off the highest freq band from the display. Keep in mind that they are all there and all active. Once you get it, you got it.

What exactly do you mean by bandwidth of the frequencies?
 
As noted, the addition of the 8th band is GREAT for bass, but it makes things confusing. Lets start by just talking about 7 bands exclusively and then we will add in the 8th.

When using the 7 bands, only read the number which is in BOLD right below the band. 64 hrz is not active. The center point of each band is an octave apart. The lowest band is 125K and the highest is 8K. When you adjust the 1K band you are controlling the level of frequencies AROUND 1K. I will ask Bob Chidlaw today what the level is like when each band crosses each other, but I suspect that they are 3dB down from the peak level at the center of the band. This acts just like any other EQ and like the ones on our Pro pedals.

Now it get a bit more complicated. When you turn on the extra band, you are activating an 8th band at 64 hrz. If you push the left arrow button one extra time, it will reveal the hidden 8th band. When you do so, you will also be hiding the 8K band. The reason is that you have 8 bands active, but you can only see 7 of them at any one time. If you then push the right hand arrow like 8 times, it will reveal the hidden 8K band and the 64 band will now be hidden again.

In a perfect world we would have just put 8 bands on the display, but then we could not fit in the small box. Between you and me? I was confused by this when I first played around with the pedal, and it is my product! Jesse is on vacation today, so I hope he does not read my post :)

Hope this addresses the question. I am happy to ask Bob about the exact width of each band later today.
 
That is the shifted frequency indicator. To use the 62Hz graphic, you have to do the special button-combo, then the whole display shifts in meaning. The 125 becomes the 62Hz setting, the 8K becomes the 4k setting.

This is the trick they needed to pull to have *8* graphic EQ settings with only *7* displayed at once.
 
Thats still not what Im asking. I understand the 8th frequency option. Each frequency of the 7 has a value on top and a value on bottom, lets say 1k on top, 500 on the bottom. So, how do you know which range you are using? It's not like you can use the pedal as a 15 band eq and have both, so, is it one range or the other, ............?????? That is not clear at all. I would be interested in this pedal if I could understand it. :confused::confused::confused:
 
So, the 1kHz slider is controlling that entire octave at once. I believe this is the gist of Kringle's question. He wants to know the Q, or width of control of each slider.

If I understand this correctly, the octave bump from 1kHz to 2Khz at 1.5kHz. From 500Hz to 1kHz is 750Hz. Thus, the 1kHz slider is controlling like a shelf from 500Hz to 1.5kHz?
 
You would be adjusting a bell curve from 500 to 1.5k. Im just going to assume that once you switch to the 65hz range, your range is from 65 to 4k and when you are at the 125 range you get 125 to 8k. Or maybe you can do 65 to 8k with the deep edit feature. The manual is clear as mud on this point.

I wa hoping this would be a good pedal to run after a VT bass pedal.
 
I just talked to Bob. Each band is a made up of a 2 pole band pass filter which is centered at each octave. I was right, when you are at the mid point to the next octave, the signal is down about 3dB down from the peak. This would be similar to the way that most graphic EQs work.

The response of a 2 pole band bass filter is bell shaped.
 
I called and got my own answers. Then I bought one. I plan on running it after a sansamp VT bass to remove the gank and have more control over the mids. Should be perfect for that. I used to use an mxr for that but, it had some tone suck.
 
Got this eq last night. Very nice. When lows are boosted it seems to lose top end but still, a good eq. I ran it after a vt bass pedal to bring up the bottom and very top. Worked great for that. Tonight Im going to try going direct to the board with it. Probably to take off the super top end and bump low mids.
 
Quick question for anyone using this: there doesn't appear to be a 'level' slider to control the overall output of the pedal. Obviously depending on which frequencies are boosted or cut and by how much can affect the volume of the signal drastically which may or may not be desirable. The Source Audio website states 18db of boost or cut per frequency and also says 12db clean boost available. How is the clean boost (or cut if possible) accessed? What I really want to know is whether it's possible to set your desired EQ shape across all frequencies and then balance the signal to unity gain?

there is an dedicated output knob which controls the output level for each preset. This is a key function of the pedal!!! It is a true bypass pedal so the level will need to be set based on the amp you use. I just noticed that the output level knob is not clearly identified on our web site. Sorry about that!!
 
I am thinking of "Going for it" , is this pedal worth it ?

My goal is to have 1 setting with my amp (GK700) and use
this pedal to make up the difference between a Fender
"J" and "P" Bass- via preset values.

Please do not come down too hard on me for asking !
