Hi all!

I have a few questions about using the Bass Pro Envelope Filter with an expression pedal. I have to say that I am very new to the whole SA thing and expression pedals in general, so maybe my questions will seem a little "childish" to you all, but just bear with me :)

1. First off all, it seems I can use the expression pedal with both envelope and hot hand settings on the pedal. And they seem to be doing (controlling) different things. What is the difference between the two modes?
2. It seems the expression pedal does nothing on the EQ preset. I was hoping that I could use it to do volume swells, if I turn the volume on the preset way down through the back page menu and then control the wet/dry with the pedal. Apparently, this trick doesn't work :(
3. A real bummer is that I can't seem to find a way to control the phasers with the expression pedal. Whenever I switch to the phaser preset and turn on the back page parameters, the pedal switches to the filter preset that preceds the phasers. Am I missing something here or the expression only works for filter presets?

My expression pedal is a Moog EP-3.

Tried the OFD through my genz Benz shuttle 6.0 into headphones last night and it was pretty darn good! Been using a PD7 before that and the tone was night and day.. The PD7 I seemed to only ever run in one setting otherwise it was too trebly or the distortion / attack settings used to Suck everything out of the low B string.. Having access to nice overdrives and the blend features are awesome... Only thing now is want to see what it's like through my rig at gig levels as the headphones didn't give all the nuance of my cab. Hoping it works out to use the tube drive with blend as an always on and then try the big muff or another fuzz with Lo retain blend for big sounding low B string. My band is metal but we play more like godsmack with a metal singer so aiming for that kind of tone and hoping to nail it!

Welcome, open_space!

1. The expression pedal will work in all three Mod Source modes, but it is best to set your preset for your single, desired method of control. For example, the expression pedal can still control sweep range in Hot Hand mode, but as long as it is in Hot Hand mode, the BEF will be receiving that data and translating it in a way that is optimal for the use of a Hot Hand. Another example: an expression pedal set to control LFO speed will have little effect if you're in Envelope mode, because the LFO is nonexistent. Here's a list of the BEF's control options, (XC), with explanations that you might find helpful: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

2. That is correct; the EQ engine keeps your signal transparent, aside from your frequency boost and cuts, so there is no modulation parameter for the expression pedal to control. The output volume, (VA) parameter, in the backpage includes both your wet and dry signals. If you're looking for an effect pedal other than a dedicated volume pedal that can achieve transparent volume swells, I recommend our AfterShock Bass Distortion, or Nemesis Delay. The will work much better for volume swells because they can both achieve -∞dB through +6dB.

3. Once you're in the backpage, the center dial correlates to your BEF's MIDI Channel. Channels 1-16 are available, so zero and 17-22 are not selectable. No worries, you're still using whichever engine you selected on the top page. :)
