Zach Rizer has been using a modular approach to bass synth, and by that it means that you use diferent effects to creat sound textures to produce a synth sound.
A dedicated synth can do that but in a more integrated manner.
As for the pedal, the sound isn't converted to midi, it's being processed digitally which is something completely diferent.
The conversion to Midi is the system used by certain synth modules that require a midi pickup to be inserted in your instrument so that it converts the notes in a series of midi commands that will trigger the sounds on an external synth module.
This pedal takes the sound directly from the bass and then processes digitally the sound wave to modify it to produce certain sounds. It needs much more processing power compared to using midi, but doesn't require any modification to the bass.

In an envelope filter there is an envelope detector that is used to control a filter. If you feed clean signal into the envelope detector, you will get the most dynamic response. If you feed the wet signal (after octave and distortion) then the signal is compressed and the response is less dynamic. HOWEVER, (and you saw this in that video) the FILTER wants to have the wet signal. It sounds much better! SO, feed the wet signal to the filter and the dry signal to the envelope detector to get the best performance. With the C4 and Spectrum you can do this either internally and sell your OC2 and gated fuzz, or you can do this externally and keep them.
Hope this makes it more clear.

As @Nunovsky explained so well and @rsmith601 added = effects pedals are essentially like modules in a synthesizer system. The combination of modules, the sequence you choose to link those modules and the settings you make will all have an effect on the cumulative sound. Using different pedal(s) in conjunction with the Spectum or C4 will add to the possible sounds.

While the Spectrum and C4 are not MIDI they will have a different response and sound depending on your bass or guitar or keyboard or other sound source.

I don't suppose there is a way to trigger the envelope from one input, while processing the audio from the other one...?

Can the C4 low oscillators activate the subs?

Like an OC-2 isn't subby. I mean will it do Meatbox/Mothership/Cubic 18" speaker shredding, chest thumping subs?

For the C5: what about sample-based oscillators? Can we get a pitch-tracking, slow decay 808 kick?

Are you saying that the C4 will have an OC2 model on it? I don't think anyone so far has managed to get a digital octave to sound anything like an analogue octaver / OC2. If you have....this in itself is a massive accomplishment. A midi controlled OC2 model with the options of dirt and filter models is again a massive game changer. At the moment I'm running an analogue octave, a Hog2 and a pair of Eventide H9's....I love the digital octave's versatility and abilities...but they behave and sound nothing like a good OC2 clone.

Considering what SA was able to do with the Aftershock and drives I am expecting the same satisfactory results from the C4 and Spectrum.

This is what I love about the Wonderlove/Chromatron and Pigtronix EP1 & EP2. The variety of tones you can get from an envelope filter with an fx loop or triggered input is huge. Can't wait to try the C4!

Excited this is coming out this week. @rsmith601 Some questions about the Spectrum
What are the top level controls, will there be alternate controls?
What are the preset engines on the toggle switch?
Will this have the two modes like the other small box 1series pedals, Red preset mode/Green standard mode (WYSIWYG)?
Will the Spectrum be fully HUB compatible on release or will the HUB require a firmware update (like with the C4)? If update is needed, is there a time frame?

Seems Source Audio is maintaining Stealth Mode until release day again as well as on the upcoming products. All I can say they better live up to the anticipation @rsmith601 and not be Al Capone's Vault! :hyper::bassist::facepalm:

There are 3 alt sounds too
No Hub yet. Same as C4. Mike Hermans video coming out tomorrow. Tells the whole story.
