I've been saying that it would be great if SA released an EF in the One Series format not only because of the size but also because it would gain a lot of tweakability due to the Neuro app options. When they said that it would also be released a synth pedal and that it would share the same arquitechture of the filter, I was blown away. And although it seems that you can load features from any of the pedals, I think that they will complement each other very well.

OK now I'm more confused. I thought the hardware and software capabilities were going to be identical, with the ui tweaked a bit for each one...?
Maybe I’m confused. I thought it was 2 separate pedals. One filter, one synth. I’m probably wrong. I haven’t followed it THAT closely.
Originally @smeet was correct, but recently the SA guys decided that it makes better business sense to have the C4 Synth do everything, and have the Spectrum focus mainly on envelope filter and octave sounds with a reduced pricetag. I’m strongly inclined to agree with them, it’s a smart move. Running a successful business means selling pedals to the masses, not just catering to a handful of guys on internet forums, and having one of the pedals available for less than $200 makes it appealing to a lot more people.

I hadn't seen this in the SA thread - maybe I missed it. So are we talking $299-ish for the C4 and sub-$200 for the Spectrum?
Ah, so if I get the C4 I'm still getting all the filtering happiness of the Spectrum?
Roger was pretty specific about the Spectrum being sub-$200, though the only thing he said about the Synth is that the price wouldn’t be insane. Maybe closer to $250? That’s just a guess though.

Well now I'm totally confused about the feature set(s)? Shrug - will try to try em, BEF Pro is rad.
For those interested probably be best to get in on the discussions on the SASS and the Gear Pages for developments. I 'd love to get both but my reality will mean going for the C4 and maybe adding a Spectrum used once the shiny wears off.

Both pedals will have all the envelope filter goodness, but only the C4 Synth will have synth stuff. The Spectrum will be cheaper. As far as their individual Neuro editing capabilities, my guess is that they’re still the same in that sense.

I want it all. Complexity is fine. Get C4. Probably like $239.

I have to admit, I started reading your message, and I was like “why does roger want a C4? Can’t he just..." but then I kept reading, and I was all “ohhhhhh, I get it, hurr hurr hurr”.
Luckily there is no minimum IQ required to buy awesome pedals, so yeah C4 for me.

Being new to SA territory... I'm looking for a 1-pedal solution to my small pedalboard that I would be able to stack with octaver and fuzz (OC-2, TAFM) for all things synthy and quacky.
Should I be getting C4 or Spectrum? Do I understand correctly that C4 is converting the signal to MIDI anyways so there is no leverage in running the OC2/gated fuzz goodness into it? That is my major turnoff concern.
Feeling lost here, appreciate your advice before I pull the trigger

You can certainly do what you want here, but the C4 can also take over the OC2 and fuzz functions if you want. If you are set with what you have, I would route your clean signal into the C4 to trigger the envelope and then your wet signal into the filter.Hi All

@rsmith601 Many thanks for your reply. Do I understand correctly, you mean that C4 will convert the signal to MIDI and do it's own thing (therefore it doesn't matter whether I feed it with gated fuzz or plain bass signal) but to offset that a little I could be blending that with some of my original signal?
I was watching Zachary Rizer demoing Manta BEF and it seemed that him using distortion/octave before Manta was making all the difference in the world.

If you get the C4, you wont be needing the OC-2 and the gated fuzz because it will have those options available. In fact, from what I read above, the Spectrum Filter will also have Octave and Distortion (Foldback, Fuzz, OD, Gated), but the C4 will be able to do much, much more.
