Source Audio UltraWave ~ Catch the Wave

Huge. Thanks!
The Ultrawave is as @rsmith601 all the things mentioned as well as a dual EQ and preamp, dual compressor or expander dual hi and lo pass filters in essence an audio tool box. Because it is truly a stereo device you can use the A side as a distortion source send it to a filter pedal or other modulation return to the B side for EQ or gating. Or anything else you can dream up due to the flexible routing options.

I am currently programming patches to go with my different recording basses to replace my dbx ProVocal channel strip for a more portable solution. I will have an ultra clean A side out as well as a warm to more saturated B side versions.

Currently I am also having a lot of fun using different Ultrawave distortion voices into my various envelope filter pedals especially paired with the Mooer Sweeper and Digitech BSW.

I, too, am programming patches with the Ultrawave that are clean, mainly compression, but also EQ. Today, I spent quite a bit of time setting EQ for an acoustic guitar on the EQ2, then for clean compression with the UW for something I was fiddling with on the acoustic, hoping it would go with a song I have already. Then hours later, after I decided to add a bass track, I set patches for clean bass on the EQ2, and UW, modifying ones I already had*. And I wasn't even really planning to record, but a nice lazy day presented an opportunity.

*Interestingly, each time, right after I saved the patches on the Hub and then switched through on the Soleman and engaged them on there, it engaged distortion on the UW on the 2nd channel. It did it on the guitar patch and bass patch. Because of what I found from the acoustic patch, I quickly sorted it, but kind of odd behavior, and similar to something I had noted with the UW before wherein, it seemed once I saved a preset, if I kept working with it engaged, the drive or distortion would slowly increase as if I were using an expression pedal but wasn't. Usually only occurs right when I'm creating/saving presets/scenes. Firmware is all up to date. I hadn't been making too many presets on the UW lately, since I've mainly been employing existing ones, mainly the clean compressed sound, trying to create scenes on the Soleman and Hub, and integrating all the other pedals I've gotten. And that problem hasn't been occurring, so it seems to be pretty much some weird glitch where the UW increases the distortion (or adds some in this new wrinkle, though maybe that's what it did before and I didn't catch that...) in the use right after creating a preset. Any other reports of this particular brand of wonkiness?

Hi All -
Just hooked my new Ultra Wave Bass onto my board to run through the Neuro Hub & Soleman.
As I switch through scenes the Ultra Wave does not disengage. Stays on through each scene. Never had the issue with Spectrum or Gemini which are still on the board. I took out the After Shock to experiment with the Ultra Wave. I removed the AS scenes to see if for some reason that was causing any issue? That didn’t fix anything.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

Is the Ultrawave part of your existing scenes? If it hasn’t been added to them, it won’t be affected when they are loaded. You’ll have to add it to this existing scenes as bypassed.

Thanks for the help.
That does make sense now that you’ve highlighted it. This is my first new addition after building my Source Audio board. (And first venture into midi) I would not have thought of that.
Appreciate the guidance.

IIRC the Ultrawave is SA first pedal that offers effect on/off as a programming parameter in the UI, more sophisticated with every new pedal!

I am a bit gassing for the UltraWave. How does it hold its own against the better fuzz and compressor pedals out there? I mean when using the compressor and the fuzz on it’s own as standalone sounds on the UltraWave. Or is more geared toward the more extreme and experimental synthy fuzz, octave and sequence like sounds?

You should check out Nathan's video on the Ultrawave.

The compressor is killer. Nathan gives it a good explanation in the middle of the video.

I'm not sure what you mean. I've been switching my Lunar on/off per patch & via Midi for a while now. For modulation patches on my Boss ES-5 controller, I prefer modulation to be switched off after a patch is assigned. So I have an array of patches where I call up Scenes on my Hub, but the Lunar's setting is disengaged until I stomp on it. This way, my Modulation is "B" effect on a lot of patches.

I am primarily using the UW for OD and Distortion. I found an OD sound that I like better than my analog OD pedals. There is a little bit of learning required in order to get what you want out of it though. For example, I like to parallel process so that instead of a blend, I tailor with EQ and compression how I want the clean side in combination with the fully distorted signal.

The compressor is really nice too. I'm not usually a comp user, but the visual feedback in the neuro desktop app really helps to dial in what you need.

I would recommend getting one if you are interested and willing to put in some time.

Ok great reply! Thanks. Do you have your OD preset in the cloud?

Ok great! What about the fuzz and overdrive? Are those the same algorithms as in the Spectrum (besides that there are more)? And do they sound killer standalone as regular fuzz and drive as well?
The Fuzz, OD and other distortion sounds in the Ultrawave are far beyond what are in the Spectrum/C4 offering so much advanced control it will take a while to get a handle on the possibilities. You can use them as simply or as complex as you choose, in fact my suggestion is to start simple and build from there OR use sounds from the library and modify them to your needs.
