I'll have to try that. I have both but that hadn't crossed my mind. They both sound great in front of the Bass Box though.
I gotta know what you think about the sounds these two would produce together, when you get the chance and if you don’t mind sharing. I just decided last night that I have to get a Sunder Fuzz this year myself so that’s cool to see this about the Bass Box.
Have you experimented much with placement of the Ictineo in the chain? Is there a reason you have it up front?
I've always had mine closer to the end of the chain, but honestly the thought never occurred to me to put it first.
I don't have an Ictineo and I'm not used to having a preamp in my pedalboard (I just tweak the amp when needed), but I'd put it right where @Somnambulance put his. I like having my "base tone" going into other effects instead of having to "re-EQ" what comes out of those effects.
Having it at the end of the chain simulates an amplifier, basically. This have sense if you go direct out (XLR) into a very flat active cab, or into a power amp or effects return of an amplifier. This would inevitably colour the tone coming out of the Ictineo, I guess.
Like I said, I'm not an expert about preamp pedals though.

Exactly. That's what I would do with any preamp, to be honest. But I see many preamp pedals with an XLR out at the end of the signal chain so I guess they're useful for other things. Me? I like having something like a TH500 set pretty flat with XLR out (when needed) and pedals all in front of it.

I'll try it when I get my board back from my buddy. I have my Broughton Studio One at the end of my board, so it makes sense to try the Ictineo at the front end, rather than right before the Broughton. My board is pretty small though, so not sure it'll make that much of a difference. I'm basically talking about having the Ictineo before or after my overdrive slot (currently Broughton Terraformer), which is not always on, so essentially there'd be no difference when the overdrive is turned off.
I haven’t but have intentions to. I play passive basses. If it had an XLR I’d be tempted to try it last in line but I really dig the tone shaping that goes on with the Ictineo. I got to know it well because it was my first Southampton pedal and the other 2 came a bit after. I’m still experimenting. Hence, the compressor being towards the end. I always used it after the tuner but in a last ditch effort, I tried it last (just got the UK and I figure it can now have last spot). The compressor last just brought me more control on stage with the total scope...it helps that it has a blend knob, for me anyways. I found myself at Sunday’s gig getting the volume I wanted by using the level knob on the compressor and it pushed exactly what the amp needed without pissing off the sound guy.
Definitely going to move some things around here when I get the chance. Compressor could possibly get 2nd position again. Been having luck with the PolyTune clip on tuner and thinking about getting the ATE to lead the line and get rid of the tuner (or have to go against the temptation of using my PT Jr again). Fitting 7 non nano sized pedals on a Nano+ is really amazing to me and I couldn’t be happier about having each one. I’m trying to be rid of the constant gas pains that have plagued me over the past 3 years when it comes to pedals...happy with my basses,amps and cabs and I’m finding myself closer to being there with these crazy little boxes! I definitely gotta lotta love for Southampton!
I had my compressor first in line after my tuner for many years, but after getting a new Broughton APEX I now have it second last, right before my Studio One preamp, and being fed by my Ictineo. I haven't done any A/B comparisons with placement, but it sounds great where it is. I like having a little more dynamic range going into my overdrive, before hitting the compressor.
That being said, when I get my pedal board back after this weekend I'm going to try the Ictineo first in line and see whats up with that. I'll snap a new pic for the group then, too.

I have 2 pedal boards, 1 has the compressor quite early, the other right toward the end of my signal chain. On the board where the comp is before my OD, I turn the Compressor off when I have the OD on because I want that dynamic range effecting the saturation I get by the way I play. It is easy to fall into the trap with an always on Comp that it has to be that - always on. I really don't think a Compressor is that useful when Saturation is in play.
On my board that has the Comp after the OD, I still turn the Comp off because it seems to smooth out the crunch of the OD. Sometimes that's useful, but usually not. IMHO YMMV etc etc

Does the Utility Knife not like being fed a hot signal? I don't remember having this issue before, but on the gig last night, the phaser was freaking out with a muff in front of it. I don't mind switching the order of the effects, but just don't remember it freaking out on a hot signal before.

I just fed my Utility Knife the FPTSD and it was fine, although the fuzz was blended with my clean.
