I used to have two Soviet basses, Ural and something unidentifiable by Yerevan factory. Both were in worse condition, though. Neck was a mess on both. Yerevan bass didn't have a truss rod, the neck was thick but it didn't help, action was like 1 cm on the 12th fret. Ural was better, but still hardly playable.
Oftentimes electric guitars and basses were a byproduct at piano and folk instruments and even furniture(sic!) factories.
