SpaceX and other space stuff

We are still animals at our core. The complicated psychological and emotional issues we've developed will never negate that.
Look at what any other animal or living thing does to it's environment when it has all the resources it needs, no predators and no competition. It eventually takes over, consumes all it's resources, then dies off.
The elk destroyed their habitat when wolves were hunted to near extinction in North America. They impacted the entire ecosystem, from the trees to the bees and every animal in-between. Not because they're evil. Just because they are animals. Once the wolves were reintroduced and the elk numbers became balanced, the ecosystem rebounded immediately.
What I'm getting at is, you couldn't explain to the elk that if they continued to overpopulate, it would destroy their environment, ultimately them,...and ask them to stop. And you can't explain it to humans either.
So, I propose we bring back a natural predator, to get population back in check and at healthy numbers.
I'm thinking T-rex. Maybe some velociraptors, cave bears and big cats for the colder regions, etc. Maybe some hybrids.
I know we can do it with advancements in clone technology.
Honestly, I haven't heard a better solution yet. Just a bunch of nonsense about electric cars and windmills, but that doesn't address the root problem.
So, we need to get our geneticists on this asap.

The writing is already on the wall for how humanity's overpopulation will be contained... Covid was a near miss. Ever greater population density, ever evolving viruses, sooner or later one will be uncontainable and that will be that. Alternatively power ballads could used to subliminally de-program the reproductive instinct from anyone who voluntarily listens to them.

And this is how it ends... with neither a whimper or a bang, but a power ballad.

Studies show that people who voluntarily listen to power ballads, have quite healthy reproductive systems and it would have the reverse effect.
So, I suggest involuntary/mandated playing of power ballads at all concerts, in all elevators, all telephone hold music, on all PA systems in all retail establishments and as theme and background music in all films.
That combined with crop dusting large population clusters with birth control and I think we could make a dent.

I don't think we'll ever have visitors from other star systems, much less other galaxies.

I believe, that life (if it exists) on other planets, past or future, are all on the same calculus curve, where they always self-destruct into the stone age, before they can ever develop the light speed travel necessary to explore the universe.

Enlightening isn't it! :smug:

Asimov wrote a great short story called Nightfall about recurrent civilisation collapse. Personally I think there are aliens everywhere, in fact I'm sure I can see one out of the corner of my eye right now...

Quite possibly Asimov's best work, in my opinion. That and Arthur C. Clarke's "The Star" changed my thinking as a young'un.

People fleeing/escaping from California has been going on for a long time. I'm sure it will be a lot cheaper to run a business in TX. And just live life in general.
The problem is, once you have enough transplants, they just end up turning the state into another California.
It's like sick people moving away to get away from a town full of sick people,....just to infect the new town and get everyone sick.
We're running out of states to run to, to get away from places like NY and CA.

Yeah, since at least '96...

Ok but - given I'm English and I only know Texas through movies - isn't it all deserts and rattlesnakes?

Ranches, canyons, rivers, the odd city.

There's even a hill in Austin.

I'm English too, but I've spent a bit of time in Texas, and spent days travelling across it by train - which to most Americans is boring, and featureless. But to a Brit is a totally alien landscape, only seen in movies.

Traveling across the US seems like traveling across the whole planet. There is just about every landscape and climate. It's truly amazing.
It gets a little hilly as you get into west Texas and then the mountains start as you hit New Mexico. The east coast of Texas on the gulf is very humid and Florida-like. I wouldn't say the whole state is flat and/or like a desert.
With stopping for fuel, food, rest and taking some pics, you can comfortably drive from coast to coast in 3-4 days. I tell everyone that they should take a week off and just drive west. See the grand canyon at least once in their life, the giant sequoia trees, the mountains, just the scenery alone while driving is worth the drive. It's amazing how many people live in this country and haven't seen any of it. Even people who travel a lot for work don't get to see it. The inside if every plane, airport and hotel look the same.
It's not expensive and better than spending a week on a cruise ship.
Same thing with resort vacations.
People go to beautiful places, even Hawaii, and sit by a pool for a whole week. I think it's nuts.

That's terrible. But some of those trees are over 2000 yrs old and have been through probably 80+ serious fires.
I'm just glad I got to see them last year.
I had been waiting 40 yrs to see them in person. I won't lie, it was an emotional moment and my eyes got a little glossy. Something you have to see in person to appreciate and I'm grateful I was able to.
