SpaceX and other space stuff

Geeking around the web a few nights ago and found this utterly fascinating (to me) conjecture about the the end of the universe, the end of time. Uses current theories, which it admits up front, that may change in the future.

Almost 30 minutes long. I didn't watch it in one sitting, but probably will at some point.

Will travel from 2019, thru time exponentially, doubling speed every 5 seconds.

There will be explanatory texts on occasion, and also voice-overs from scientists like Stephen Hawking, Neil deGrasse Tyson, a few others, at pertinent time counts.

For those that like to ponder the far, almost immeasurable, future (like I do) you may like this.

I haven't been hanging out at TB much the past coupla months, but I have to say:
progress with the Muskmachine seems to have really taken a dive.
#disappointed

Are we ever going to take a real next significant step with Starship?
I keep seeing nonsense updates on the program on YouTube - for months.
Why did the rapid iterations screech to a halt?

It seems the FAA. Until at least 12-31-2021

I watched it. At the conusion, it speculates that in the unimaginably distant future of the continuously expanding universe, every last bit of matter in the universe will eventually disintegrate, leaving only low energy photons.

When all photons cool to absolute zero, entropy will have reached its limit and time becomes meaningless. It won't be possible for any more events to happen, and the universe will stay run down forever.

This theory is popular among cosmologists.

However, there is a similar theory that initially follows the same reasoning, but contains a crucial alteration. It suggests that when only photons remain in the universe and time becomes meaningless, the concept of space itself will also become meaningless.

Spacial length is defined by the distance between material objects. With no more matter in existence, distance no longer has any meaning and the universe has no way of knowing how big it is.

The cosmologist Roger Penrose has proposed that this condition is exactly the same as the initial condition of the universe in the moment of the big bang. If this is true, it strongly implies that a new big bang will occur, stating a brand new universe.

Penrose's theory is called conformal cyclic cosmology (CCC), and it proposes that the process of big bang, expansion, heat death, and disintegration of all matter, has happened repeatedly, forever into the past, and will continue repeatedly into the future.

Roger Penrose is one of the most accomplished and highly regarded physicists in the world, but he's proposed a few theories in the past which have left other scientists scratching their heads, wondering if he'd lost his mind.

While CCC does have its supporters, most cosmologists consider it to be flawed for various reasons.

While I've been reading extensively about cosmology for 40 years and know a fair amount about it (I majored in physics at university) I'm far from expert on it and the extremely advanced math that underlies it is far beyond my abilities.

Still, CCC has several features that are appealing to me, and I think the cosmologists who discredit it haven't really given it a fair shot. I suspect that a lot of them simply don't understand it (some of them have said as much).
