There was a law passed in 2012 that allowed Mercury, Gemini and Apollo astronauts to keep and do what they wanted with "keepsakes" from their missions. What the definition of the keepsakes are I don't know.
IIRC, Dave Scott's situation was different. I believe he "smuggled" the stamps/first day covers on board with the intent of making a profit. I think he also had some other possibly space related legal troubles after that. And I could be wrong about some of this.
Just thought this was a cool pic. If our eyes could gather the light to see the Andromeda Galaxy in the night sky, this is about how it'd look. Hella cool sight. Yes, I'm easily geeked LOL.

It's a twofer day at Cape Canaveral today. ULA just launched a USSF GEO 6 missle warning satellite and tonight SpaceX will launch the KPLO mission to lunar orbit at 7:08 pm edt. Here's some info about KPLO:

Meanwhile, in a crater on Mars, the Curiosity Rover just celebrated it's 10th year in action. Still making it's way up the central peak/mountain of 96 mile wide Gale Crater. Celebrate 10 years of NASA's Curiosity rover with these incredible images (gallery).

This is the first time I've seen Elon's toys flying over our house. They were visible for four minutes. Quite a cool site to behold. They'll be back tomorrow about the same time, but we won't be around to see the next episode.
