SpaceX and other space stuff

Starliner return has been postponed again until June 26 (Wednesday). The reason I heard today is that the leaks are on the service module which will be jettisoned to burn up. The delay gives NASA/Boeing more time to investigate and work with the service module. Anyone got any Soyuz or Crew Dragon tickets to spare?

Available on CraigsList so I've heard. But you have to keep checking different regions, as the ISS keeps zooming over them as it orbits....

I am all for space exploration and wish we had kept up the level of funding we had in years past, but oh my have I gone down an interesting rabbit hole. I would put SpaceX as one of Musk's top two least poorly managed endeavors, but seeing a physics professor dunk on the basic physics of his ideas is some combination of concerning and entertaining.

What that guy completely fails to acknowledge, is that Elon / SpaceX successfully launched a Tesla into orbit around the Sun.

NASA never even managed to put a Fiat 500 into low earth orbit.

What's more, the Tesla has crossed the orbit of Mars four times so far - technically SpaceX made it to Mars ahead of schedule, and has repeated the feat annually.

So there!

OK, there is the minor issue that the first crewed SpaceX mission to colonize Mars, could get wiped out during it's orbital insertion, by an out of control Tesla.
But what's an unscheduled multi-vehicle rapid disassembly between fanboys, huh?
 
Reading through the comments on that story, I agree with the idea of sending the next available Crew Dragon up sooner, with two crew for the next crew rotation (presently scheduled for late September).

Then NASA can stay close to their original rotation schedule. And if Suni and Butch stay on as part of that next crew rotation, they get nearly 6 months to train to use their new SpaceX suits....

SpaceX is building a NASA craft to intentionally destroy the International Space Station after retiring.

  • NASA will have a spacecraft from Elon Musk's SpaceX guide the International Space Station's destruction after its retirement in 2030.
  • The agency awarded an $843 million contract to SpaceX to build the so-called "U.S. Deorbit Vehicle."
  • The SpaceX-built vehicle will effectively destroy the ISS by pushing the station into reentry from orbit.

Geeked out yesterday on the NASA site, YouTube, and various online readings about the Apollo 11 moon landing. 55 years ago yesterday (20 July, 1969). I was a lad of 12, totally engrossed as was much of the planet. Humanity's first human walkabout offworld. I remember being disappointed in the first piss-poor quality of the televised images LOL.

Here's a detailed video of the Lunar Module going from orbital velocity to touchdown. First 3 minutes are a preliminary reference from the narrator for the remaining video. Remaining video from inside camera looking out a window with communications between astronauts and ground control. Total about 20 minutes.
