BTW, much of Hendrix's tone was the result of using a right handed Strat strung upside down. Many righties adopted 'upside down' headstocks to get that tone...
i suspect they all just did it because it looked cool :cool:
It mainly had to do with the reversed bridge pickup, which on a strat is angled closer to the bridge on the treble side (so backwards the way Hendrix played them).
i'm inclined to agree here, inasmuch as there is any real sound difference at all;

the reversed bridge pickup makes for a slightly twangier low E and a slightly fatter hi E (both good things in my book) when you play on the bridge pickup.

a reversed headstock might feel a little different, but i doubt there's much of a sound change.

My information came from the source, who I met in 1969 on my way back home after spending a few days in Bethel NY.
now that sounds like a story!

i mostly saw reversed headstocks on '80s superstrats played by guys with poodle hair :spit:

(aside from the occasional hip '70s player like joe perry or steve miller.)
 
think of guitar -or bass- strings as lower tensioned springs welded to higher tensioned ones. That's why trapeze bridged guitars sound and feel different than "hard-tailed" ones and reversed headstock guitars will have a slightly different feel than regular headstocks. Basic statics in engineering, it's rigidity of what the endpoints of the vibrating string are attached to: either immovable objects or objects that have some give when force is applied. And frequency comes into play as well but then you're getting into dynamics and it's too late in the evening for me to recall that stuff :hiding:
