I’m a battery powered bass amp enthusiasts too, and I like the new super powerful lightweight killer tone bass rigs - BTW, I remember years ago when Eminence, Allied Radio Shack, and etc were considered really cheap and bad sounding

Funny you should say that. I was talking with the "better half" this morning. She doesnt know anything about electronics or music - but she is really good at bouncing ideas off of. She asked me "why are you doing it cheap? If it is for you and its going to take a long time to build, save up the money and do it right." I love my wife. She keeps me grounded. Im back to my original concept. Im going to make myself happy and not design for the masses...

And thank you Joe for reinforcing what my wife said. :)

and for any that care it wasnt long after this that the wife said "You should learn how to play the music from Grease. That would be nice." Guess what I'm working on this morning... Hopefully Ill muddle through it and she will forget all about it... Yea I did think so either... :hiding:

+10, my wife does the same - enjoy/have fun.
Oh and I played “Beat It” (MJ) with some friends the other day just for fun and it was fun. :)

Joe, thanks I did.
I was rather surprised at the cost of some of the speakers.

I found a thread that poster used a small MCM speaker and I have started looking at those.

This "concept" is a battery powered 30W amp driving a 12" driver in a ported tuned enclosure. The MCM has the price point vs XMax and power limits I was looking for.

Working the math for li vs pb with associated charging circuits right now. :)

Im leaning towards pb since price point is a trade off for weight gain.

Not sure if the thread you referred to about the cheap little MCM speaker was mine or not, but TB'r Colonel Monk also commented on the idea of using it with a battery powered amp.

Mine is a sealed box design featuring a 1x8 MCM driver, which sounds great at low volume, but probably isn’t efficient enough to make sense for a battery powered combo. +1 for going with a more efficient 12” driver in a ported box. I would actually recommend looking at the Eminence Basslite S2012 in this role, as it will fit a fairly small ported box with decent results and plenty of efficiency –and weighs scarcely more than the 1x8 in my little cab.

I guess for battery powered, the real questions are, how loud do you need it, how long do you need it to play, and will you be balancing it on the handlebars of your bicycle whilst playing your bass one handed? And how far do you think you could ride like that? :D

I am curious to see what you come up with!

I agree with your wife – if its worth doing, do it right!

I wish my wife current wife (#2) was in any way shape or form anything – even remotely – like what you two have suggested. I think I need to develop a list of questions before I start the screening process for my next ex-wife. Seems like my lease is about up on this one, just about time to trade up!
