Going to build a fretless ABG based on the Tinozza design of RM Mottola.

Figured Claro Walnut back and sides, bearclaw Sitka top, Macassar Ebony fingerboard.

Made some progress yesterday and today.

Thicknessed the top to .125" and laid out the plan:

This piece of Sitka was just big enough! A few changes from Mottola's plan: I would like to add an arm bevel as this thing is huge (6" deep). Also moved the upper brace a little north as I'm going to do a side soundport instead of the soundhole in the top.

I've made one of these before and had a mold CNC'd from Mottola's drawings:

As-is, there is a little shelf at the edge of the neck heel and the start of the cutaway. I added a little piece here this morning that should make for a smooth transition between neck and body and the cutaway

Laid out the fretboard, then trimmed and planed it to final dimensions:

Got the braces done and glued up!

Not the most productive day, but got the neck block made and started laminating the neck:

Holding off on sawing up my walnut billet because I've got a new resaw blade on the way.

Thinking of doing this on the headstock:

It's from a Jean Berain drawing, who was a real freak from the 1700s (public domain imagery at this point). I saw it at some peoples' mansion at a wedding in south carolina recently. Really weird stuff, worth checking out.
My girlfriend says she needs bigger boobs (the goat lady, not my gf).

That was the plan that I used as the starting point for the body shape of my last build

What lead you to put the sapwood in the middle? Just liked it better that way, or something specific?

I don't want to get too far ahead of you revealing things as you go, but are you planning on any purfling, binding, or other details?

I liked how the sapwood looked in the middle, i tried it the other way and it looked a little weird, plus i'd be joining a lot of runout.
The sides are from the same billet as this back, they will be wide enough to make bindings from them so i might do that, or i have a bunch of rosewood i might use. Purfling I might just do a single black line if i go with the walnut bindings, probably a bwb on the top.
