Top glued on!
Next i installed the pickup, using a truebass with the volume knob attachment. I've got the jack tied to a little stick here so i can feed it through the tail later - need to do the end graft before I drill the hole.
And back into the go-bar deck to attach the back, waiting for the glue to set!

Trimmed the top and back, survived round 1 with the spinning dick of death!

Good lord, you weren’t kidding when you said that body was deep. It’s half acoustic bass body, half bass drum!

Some beautiful work happening here, and major craftsmanship! A buddy of mine builds acoustics, I’m constantly in awe of all of the steps to build one of these masterpieces. Thanks for sharing, can’t wait to see the result!

I have a curious question. I am not so learned in acoustic instruments
With the large acoustic chamber, what are you attempting to accomplish?

This design uses 1/4 upright bass strings, and the goal is to mimic an upright sound more than an electric fretless sound.
Bigger box makes for a lower resonant frequency of the sound box, so more bass.
There's a few of ways to lower the frequency, one is to make the edges of the top thinner, or the braces smaller, or to add mass to the sides. I dont want to thin the top too much because you lose some sustain when you do that, and the strings are really heavy so it could sound like a floppy hot dog pretty quick.
This one is tap testing at around 85Hz right now, which will change a bit when I add the bridge and do the side arm bevel. - the arm bevel has an impact because I'm removing some mass, so the frequency will go up, but the bridge will lower it again. Attaching the neck lowers it a little too (adding mass).
85 isn't as low as I hoped really, I target 95 on OM sized acoustics, so I might thin the top some more and try to get it to drop a bit.
The most important thing, is you want the box to resonant between two real notes (like a quarter tone) when it's all said and done to help minimize wolf tones.
Well, between sanding the sides, and breaking a bunch of binding on the bending iron I did finish up the satyr lady.
That inlay turned out great! The third boob on the mock-up reminded me of the movie "Paul"
