Progress on the arm bevel!
Got it all purfled:

Then added some blocks to the ends and some buffer between the purfling and where the bevel will be:

Next I'll carve in the bevel, and then put a walnut veneer over it and hopefully it will all blend well!

Here it is carved. A 45 degree roundover bit would have been nice, but I got it done with planes, chisels and files. What you're seeing exposed here is the walnut rim I put in this section before I attached the top:

Then I put some tape on it and rubbed a pencil to get the outline.

I was going to use the same walnut as the sides as a veneer, but decided to go with some more of the macassar ebony I'm using in other areas of the build (bridge, fretboard, endwedge, etc). I sliced a little off the billet with the bandsaw, then glued the ends of it down onto a board and ran it through the sander a bunch to get veneer-thickness. The tape gets peeled off the side and stuck to the veneer

Next I cut it out carefully, bent it a bit on the iron, and epoxied it on

Wow, that is really impressive. Its so cool to get to see this kinda work step by step. Amazing craftsmanship, I've never seen an arm scoop like that. I though it looked cool without the veneer. Thanks for sharing the process

Yep, it’s builds like this that remind the rest of us what actual luthiery looks like. The bald truth is that gluing planks together, slapping a finish on, and screwing pickups to it pales in comparison.



Not that I’m going to stop anytime soon.....

All depends on how my treatments go and stuff. Everything is slow down to a crawl right now. Though I did get a few of the parts that I need in today.

still, there are a couple of these builds that are really blowing my mind. Some of them just incredible technically, others just design wise visually is wonderful. Something to be learned every single day just by looking through these threads.

Nah, I really don't think so, electrics take crazy skills and precision too. And acoustics take so long, you really need to have brain damage to do them
