Sorry. The "X only need Y" argument is a bit of a pet peeve of mine, and being cooped up at home with no gigs is starting to get to me. :)

I'm anxious to see this one finished the whole design is awesome. I'm really fond of the dual p pickup design to begin with but a triple reverse p is going to be amaizing. I'm in design phase of doing a modern 7 string headless multiscale singlecut bass and I'll be using similar woods with a pair of 6 string soapbars slanted and slightly offset in a p configuration

I was thinking of doing a headless 7 too! But, with the whole pandemic thing and the fact that I'm picking up one of the new headless Ibanez 6ers, I figured it could wait. I have a fretless 8 to keep me occupied anyways :D

Awesome I'll be watching out for if you start that build down the line too. I think I found some decent headless hardware on ebay for it too just need to start buying some hardware and parts for it. Cheers on this build so far though man it is a very cool design.

Are you looking at asian hardware? There's new clones of the single-bridge style headless bits that are intriguing. I tried buying a full set of 7 in gold at around 180 USD with the single piece string retainer, but the seller who has all of those listings up beat around the bush and didn't actually have all the parts for the kit in stock. Otherwise I'd probably be working on a 7 right now :(

I'm concerned mainly that the machining will be poor and/ or the metal will be fragile or soft we shall see I probably should just order one to be safe first and test it honestly.

So will there be any way to turn the middle pickup off and get Neck+Bridge combination? Being spaced so far apart I think that would give a super deep/phat tone but with lots of clarity.

I was just going to leave it as switchable neck and bridge with an always-on middle. I haven't figured out a switching scheme that would work to do that unless I chose either the neck or bridge pickup as always on.

I have two push pull pots I can use, 3 SPST switches, a 3PDT on-on, and a 2P6T rotary switch laying around. I'm sure the 2P6T could lead to something, I just don't have the control plate on hand to check fitment atm so I haven't investigated further.

Edit: Looks like I also have a spare barrel jack so I could theoretically use all 4 control plate holes for... well, controls - and just use the barrel jack out the side of the body.

I'm not 100% that these are the same tuners you linked but they look similar. You might take a read through this thread before you order those for a bass build, especially one with heavy strings like a 6 or 7 string. I don't recall if the OP said he got them working properly or not.

Cheap Chinese headless tuners. How do I make them work right?

Also, the other tuners mentioned are Nova headless and the maker is here on TB although I don't recall his handle. If you search Nova headless here and Hardware, Setup and Repair you'll probably find him.

Those Nova parts look much, much nicer. I wonder what they run? I'm up for buying quality parts but when ABM individual bridges cost more than my rent they're kinda hard to justify.

Well, actually, with a 3PDT switch and two DPDT push-pulls, there might be a way for me to get every possible pickup combination possible with 3 pickups. I think I have it worked out in my head but I really have to write it all out to make sure... once I'm outside work-at-home hours of course :D
