Going to be selling my ampeg b4r (older usa blue label) for about $250 or so here pretty soon. I want to put a little tlc into it first. Needs a good cleaning and some new knobs is all.

That's a fantasic price. The EQ on those is very versatile.

I got it in a deal and don't need it. I have a ampeg svt 2 that I'm very happy with. It's 2 ohm stable and pushes 1000 watts at that. Plenty of low end and power. Gotta get her cleaned up first though lol

Always willing to help my Spector brothers and sisters out. It's a good head, I have 2 others though and its taking up space lol.

+1 That's one of the things I like about Spectors; when you put em high up, it makes things REALLY easy to reach. The playing experience is great--it's almost effortless.


On a side note, I just spent hours digging through old Spector threads so I could remember who it was that bought the NS4H2 from BPL and I FINALLY remembered.
So, this question goes to guy n. cognito:
How do you like the OBP 3 with the JJ pickups on your bolt-on?
I bet your slap tone is incredible, but at work I can't load the soundclips that you have on SoundCloud.
Also, does anyone know if the bolt-ons only come in the Matte finish? I haven't seen any with high-gloss.
Anyone else care to chime in on the OBP-3 sound?

So far, I like it quite a bit. I'm not much of a slapper, but it does sound great. The OBP-3 is a fine preamp, although it gets real "hot" real fast when you start turning the dials. The pickups are Aguilar single coils, and I'm not sure if I like them yet or not. I remembered why I generally don't like single coils: it is impossible to favor one pickup or another without creating a MASSIVE amount of hum. They are very mid-present and have lots of thump, with a controlled low end and fairly smooth highs.

I'm going to play them for a few more months, but I might switch them out for something different (and hum-cancelling)

It is 1000w@4 ohms. Built in biamp, 500w a side 2 ohm min. It does have a volume Knob lol. Never need to upgrade really. Haven't really even looked at it much. Got all the bells n whistles. Cool head.

I love this bass.... at least how it looks... I just bought Lima/Mad's NS-2JA-R and it has EMGs I think they are hum canceling... full review once it comes in

That's awesome! That bass is definitely a looker. I like the fact that the OBP-3 has a mid-range control; that makes it really tonally versatile IMO. If you were to replace those Aguilar J's, what would you put in it?
I love the birdseye fretboard, by the way. It makes the bass look that much more elegant.
Also, I notice that it has a contour AND a tummycut? How does that compare to your NS4CR's contour?
Sorry I'm asking a lot of questions, but this bass is very interesting.

it seems versatile enough to help me transition cabs (I have a bit of a cab addiction).... Right now I have 2 4 ohm cabs, but I would like to switch to a matched cab setup (or 810)... either ampeg or GK... (I'm still debating, I think I am leaning Ampeg)

Well come April I'll be able to tell you! My new Forte 5 is being equipped with an OBP3.

I'm sure you guys have seen this but this time of year its nice to peek inside of santa's workshop. It's quite inspiring.
