Also one has to wonder if Regi is running stock electronics & pups or upgraded? Everybody knows that you can take a lowend or starter bass and upgrade the electronics and it'll sound like a different/better axe.

I do not know about the electronics. I would assume that his Squire is fairly stock. He has a few sweet modded guitars that hes breaks out occasionally at their weekly gigs here in Nashville!

Initial impressions on the 18V mod: very nice.

I played around and A/B'd last night for about an hour on my Aguilar equipped Forte and have to say I'm very pleased....especially since the mod took about 5 minutes to construct and cost about $5.

It definitely gave the pups more headroom. I went from bass at 70% and treble at 70% to being able to run them (now with mod) in the center detents for about the same percieved output volume. High notes seem to have more clarity and "pop". Maybe just a tad brighter. Growl is about the same IMO and lows maybe have a tad more grunt.

I think it's a keeper. More to come.

I was having a few issues last night getting the right tone with my new strings. I changed from the stock 45-105 to my preferred 40-95 and it sounds just a bit too thin with bass maxed and treble about 70%. I started thinking about how the 18V Aggie in my old Euro was basically ran at the center dents with no real issue. I may have to mod mine to 18V until I can afford an OBP-3!

A side note...I bought a set of DR hi-beams and the E string was exceptionally long. I looked at the packaging and there was nothing showing it was an extended scale string. I cut a good 7-8 inches off and still had to wrap part of the second largest taper point around the post.

I have purchased a LOT of strings and have never had this issue. Has any one experienced this before?

The neck of the NS20004 felt so much slimmer and more comfortable today!
I suppose the next thing on my list will be getting myself a 4-string P-J Euro, when I inevitably start to GAS in a few months after the "new spector" effect starts to wear off.

It takes you that long before SASing?!
I find myself SASing right soon after I buy one...like constantly! I'm strategizing already which will be my next fiver and I haven't received my Forte 5 yet. Haha! Wish I would've jumped on that WCR NS-5 that BC had listed! But it's sold. Maybe someone that owns a WCR NS-5 will be SASing soon or not really loving it and decide to sell!

Hmmmm...I like the idea of more low grunt! Did you follow Lima's diagram?

Did you put this E string on your Forte?

Im assuming this is what the situation is since it happen to me and was driving me nuts until I figured it out.

Not sure of you can tell in my Avatar photo. Look at the Forte Headstock compared to the 2 Euro Headstocks.

The E string post is closer to the nut. The entire headstock is actually smaller.

When I put Hi Beams on my Euros the taper part stays around the post and the thicker part starts right after the wind is finished.

When I put the Hi Beams on my Forte the thicker part of the string actually wraps around the post.

I can't believe nobody has snatched up that Black Matte NS-5XL from Bass Central. It is practically brand new and still includes a warranty so for the price they are asking, it can't be beat.

I debated buying it but I would have to sell my blue Euro 5LX which I don't want to do.

EMG and Aguilar both recommend running on 18Volts

Hmmmm...I like the idea of more low grunt! Did you follow Lima's diagram?

Huh...I never noticed that about the headstocks before. I wonder if all the USA HS's are smaller than the Euro's??? Interesting!

I'd seen that Black Matte NS-5XL...awesome price! I'm thinking of either a WCR or Blue with Maple FB NS-5XL!
That'd be tough to sell your blue Euro. SAS is a mean mistress though!

I think you will be good, you are not making any mod to the bass. IMHO this is just like changing the battery.

Unless you make a "big mistake" with the connections and short something out which I highly doubt will happen.

That is exactly what is happening! I sat around for 30 min last night looking, measuring, rechecking and cutting small chunks of string. It was ridiculous!
