cleanest sounding rig I've ever played through.... I couldn't get it to growl.... but I only played it for about 30 minutes and didn't go full volume. I'm not sure what model it was... some 212 combo type deal.

My buddy from another band has another one of their combos and loves it, but he uses effects for all his distortion, I just prefer the more natural sound of doing it myself

ya I think you either hate or love them.... they don't seem to color the tone either, its a great amp. I say go check em out! if you like em and its on sale.... win win!!

Slinkies are 15.00 a set at best buy....ask me how I know!!!! It is cheaper for me to go there because I have soooooo many basses!!!

Only problem with that is that Slinky's are dead before you get them home! Hopefully Cobalts will last much longer.

I would say there is a tad more string noise....the ole "no free lunch" deal but I will gladly take the trade-off. Yes, for me, I really prefer a picked tone but I don't pick and not really in the mood to convert. Played near the bridge these strings get the best "pick tone" I've heard played with fingers.

I'd been told by many of musicians that if start out with finger style stay with it. They all told me in their opinions finger style is best. I've tried picks a few times...just not my thing.

Next question in my on going series of stupid questions related to my BEAD Euro:

I watched the John Carruthers video on nut filing, and he used a feeler gauge at the first fret to determine when the nut was low enough. That was on an EADG Fender.

Is there a recommended measurement for Spectors, including a low B? The "Tech Tips from the Master" page on the Spector site doesn't mention specifics and I realize mileage may vary. Just wanted to see if some of you Spector experts had numbers that worked for you.

In the Carruthers video he picks out a .022 feeler gauge (.559mm) to measure where he wants the distance to be between the bottom of the string and the top of the fret. He uses this for all 4 strings on EADG. Am I wrong or does that seem pretty low? Also considering the low B needs more room to vibrate, I'd be afraid to take the nut that low.

Has anyone here used markbass cabinets? From what I've heard they are pretty hi-fi, but I want something I can distort a little when I push it hard.

My local GC carries a lot of markbass stuff and is having a ridiculous sale so I might be able to snag a cabinet for a good price, but if they are too clean sounding I would rather not.

I've got Markbass Club121 cabinet and their LittleMark head. Yes, they are pretty hi-fy and known for their clear tone but it's more about their heads than cabinets. Try Marcbass cab with non-Markbass head and you'll probably like it. What I like about it is that it is extremely light - about 12 kg for 400 Watt is a good balance)

perhaps, I use EBs or D'Addario xl nickels....not too many brands have the thinner gauges.....I can get 40-95 in a bunch of different ones but the 35-95s or 30-90s are another stretch of road....those go on the slap basses....

and agreed on DRs long life. i've had the same set of hibeams on my p-bass for 3+ years and they still sound good.

Some Pau Ferro looks much lighter then others.

His looks much lighter then mine also.

P.S. I actually like the lighter better, it reminds me of the Kramer NS-2's
