Huh...that's odd isn't it. Ours shipped the same day probably and yours is sitting in PA? It's almost like they don't or can't deliver until the 16th. Lol I wonder if there's an agreement with their retailers? That might be the day that it'll be available in stores. Makes sense I guess.
Did you buy the red smart cover? I'll buy a cover from WalMart or someplace. I can't wait to start downloading some music apps from IK Multimedia to start recording my bass'!

I have never tried Ernie Ball strings but these have my attention. Has anyone tried the 5 string version of these strings by chance? They have a .130 B string so I am curious how it fits into the Spector bridge since some other strings like DR, I need to crimp the end with pliers in order for it to fit.

It seems like they use odd guages too since the B string is a .130 but the E string is a .100. I guess I am just used to having an E string be .105.

Yeah, I don't think they can ship it early so they are just setting everyone up for delivery on the 16th since that is the official release date. I just bought a standard grey smart cover, nothing special.

I'm also thinking about ordering a set or two of these strings and am wondering how the .100 would handle dropping to D as I'm also use'd to a .105.

I'm not fond of clicky clacky basses, when I play a note I want to hear a note not a bunch of metal on metal bass "rim shots". Are these good in this regard?

I have a teeny bit of string noise, but I get that with anything because I have craazyy low action. It's not any worse than any other strings that were on it. I wouldn't call it clicky clacky by any means, but that's my opinion.

Where I had the most difficulty adjusting, and it wasn't rocket science really, is that the sustain is so much better that I've had to adjust my plucking style for longer notes so I don't have to mute them off. I like a sustained note to kind of trickle off into almost nothing before the next note - on the old strings (D'Addario nickel rounds), I would have to pluck harder on those long notes. On the Cobalts, I've had to lighten up because the sustain carried so long I'd have to mute to go to the next note. Personally - I consider that a good problem to have.

I would also recommend Bassstringsonline.com for string purchases. Great deals, excellent service and TB'ers get a VIP program at no charge.

I "think" (and I use that term loosely) that with slightly more tension on the Cobalts and being down .005 on the E it might cancel each other out. I tuned down to D with no problem but I'm running 105's. Maybe someone else will chime in.

I just checked with Ernie Ball and they said no Nickel in the composition of Cobalts. :hyper:

So I just ordered a set from Jason @ Bassstringsonline.com

It's not my Spector, but on my bass tuned BEAD I just used the 4 lower strings of the DR Sunbeams 5-string set.
Sounds like a monster :D

I used pliers to squeeze the bindings on the ball end to get them to fit, You might not need the tapered strings.

Has anyone here used markbass cabinets? From what I've heard they are pretty hi-fi, but I want something I can distort a little when I push it hard.

My local GC carries a lot of markbass stuff and is having a ridiculous sale so I might be able to snag a cabinet for a good price, but if they are too clean sounding I would rather not.

cleanest sounding rig I've ever played through.... I couldn't get it to growl.... but I only played it for about 30 minutes and didn't go full volume. I'm not sure what model it was... some 212 combo type deal.
