Yeah an ebony FB would be amazing also! I would like a white (matte finish) Wimbish with black hardware and ebony fb!!! I think that would cure my SAS...atleast for a few months anyway! :bassist::D

oh yeah. id like gold harware though because it gives me the mike starr nostalgia. which i love that bass!!! id donate a testicle for it if it would get me that bass :) lol

have you seen the wenge NS-2 and NS-4 Bass Central has (had) on their site?? i almost bought the NS-4 actually. i'd love to have an NS-5 but with a J/J setup with those woods. it would be like a 'Wick Streamer Stage II 5 but ya know- better!! :D

no. dang i missed it :spit: lol. yep. you know since i got my 2nd bass...ahem...ww rb..., i hardly play it as much as my spector. my spector, even though its a legend, plays like butta! :)

i had one of the original Spector Legend 5's (with the J/MM pickup config) as my main ax for a long time. it was a beast. definitely trumps all over the RockBasses for sure!

so far, for sure. i wanted to get a german vette as my backup, but i found that rb for dirt cheap and i had the $$ for it at the time. so i bit the dirt for it. i mean, its decent, but my spector gets most of my playing time. and the ibanez 5 my drummer let me borrow for some of the songs...um...yeah. it hardly gets touched except to learn the songs i have to on it.

This is very true. The one thing I do find myself doing though is thinking too much while playing and that does get me to make mistakes so I need to work on that.

Ok, so I finally made a clip I didn't totally hate using my NS-5XL :) Please be gentle :hiding:

The first part of the clip is clean with the bass boosted and treble is flat.
The second part I have the RBI engaged using the Ampeg SVT settings.
The third part, I have the RBI engaged using the Ampeg SVT settings and the bass and treble boosted all the way.
The fourth part is clean with the bass and treble boosted all the way.

The riff is from the song "25 Years" by Pantera off the Far Beyond Driven CD.

Thanks so much for doing this. When I have time this weekend I'm going to try the same thing with my NS-5XL and see how close it is to yours in terms of tone. Sorry if you answered already but what strings did you use?

Also I'm assuming the "clean" parts mean straight through the RBI with the Active button out, and the parts without the bass and treble boosted mean the controls are centered?

Beautiful bass as always. :)

Actually, I don't think I mentioned that so thanks for reminding me. I am using the Spector nickel strings to be honest. I was normally a stainless steel kind of guy but I loved the feel and tone of the Sector nickels when they came on this bass so I got a new pair and put them on it. I tried the Spector stainless steels on my Euro 5LX but hated them and ripped them right off the bass and swapped them with DR Hi-Beams but I think I am going to order a set of Spector nickels for that as well.

Correct. When I use the term "clean" the Active button is out. I just hooked up a simple foot switch though and can toggle that with my foot but the active light is not lit when refer to a clean tone. I am always running through the RBI though and had that hooked directly into the sound card of my Macbook and recorded it with Garageband.

As for the bass and treble boosted, I don't have them set in the middle. When they are both set in the middle, that is considered "flat" so when i refer to them as being boosted, I turned both knobs to the left as far as they can go. The one thing I did notice when bosting the treble all the way is you start to hear some hiss in the signal so i might want to try out an EQ pedal to see if i can EQ that out a bit.
