I don't understand the jcm800 comment... :hiding: I've always found them easy to use, but I have found the Ampeg head a bit more "tricky" to dial in...

agreed... that is why I went with the mbe 410. A buddy of mine uses GK heads and Ampeg cabs and tunes down to C with no problem

yeah I was talking about the ampeg heads lol i got carried away lol. sorry.

Their heads loop everything ( eq, shelving, effects loop, graphic) back through the pre amp. most heads take the pre amp signal and then add eq etc, and feed it to the power amp at the end. It's tricky. So if your running a hot bass to start with, with the ampeg, major eq tweeks multiply onto the input signal and just clip the hell out of the pre (why the ultra low boost switch is evil). lol. little adjustments from center actually do major things to the tone. once you get them figured out though there's really a huge amount of possibilities there.

I've had too much coffee today lol

I might be wrong, but I think that is a photoshopped picture. I think that might be Todd's Untra Amber NS-2 with the Maple fretboard fixed to the regular Pau Ferro board.

If I remember right, Loend68 has a ultra amber ns-2 on order, am I right? Does it have the regular board?

cool! yeah the 4x10 hlf is a beast. wicked low end on that sucker. I haven't played the B210 yet. have to check it out.

I think your right, I googled it and i thing the pic was from one of his posts. I'm pretty sure thats Todd's bass.

lol just wondering what color you have to order to get that cool burt orange :)

Yup...that's what I have on order. JP did a photoshop of Todd's bass with a pau ferro board for me.

Should be seeing it soon!!! :bassist:

Ok, so I finally made a clip I didn't totally hate using my NS-5XL :) Please be gentle :hiding:



The first part of the clip is clean with the bass boosted and treble is flat.
The second part I have the RBI engaged using the Ampeg SVT settings.
The third part, I have the RBI engaged using the Ampeg SVT settings and the bass and treble boosted all the way.
The fourth part is clean with the bass and treble boosted all the way.

The riff is from the song "25 Years" by Pantera off the Far Beyond Driven CD.

Yeah the only sealed cabs I've had prior to this are the Bergantino NV stuff. I had the 425 and the 610. They were both awesome. Didn't go "as low" as my PH cabs but still equally as great which is why I'm pumped for the sealed Mesa designs.

I'd love to try out one of those PR-810H cabs that Johnny April uses (along with his custom 2x18's) and Rex used to have in his backline. I think they get in at around 212lbs tho... lol.

Thanks Jaymi. That is what I kept reading over and over when I was looking into this thing. You do so much recording, I can definitely see you getting a ton of use out of something like this.

Are you looking at the pedal version of the Sansamp or does it not matter and you are ok with going with a rack mount unit like the RBI? I have not tried the Sansamp BDDI but I will say that the RBI has 2 more knobs that the BDDI doesn't. The RBI has a mid knob and also an XLR one as well so you do get a bit more control over the tone.

While I haven't tried the Aguilar pedal, I do own an MXR M-80 that I will be selling since i like the RBI better. The M-80 is a great pedal but I think it added too much fuzz to the tone I was looking for. I tried messing with the thing for a few days and just couldn't find a tone I was happy with so I decided to look into others.

Yeah, I like that the RBI has a mid knob, but I'd prefer to stick with pedals for now. Part of why I was looking at the mxr is because I hear the EQ is pretty useful. The price is also pretty attractive too. There was this one YouTube clip of someone using it with a Spector and it had a really nice grit to it- it's the guy with the massive gages- his cover of 'unretrofied'. (can't post a link now- on my phone).
Someone suggested the darkglass b7k- I'd like to get one, but at that price I'd probably pass. The sansamp pedals seem to be the standard, but I'd like to have a mid knob if possible... It looks like for now I'm leaning towards the mxr...

:eek: no way. that's about 40 lbs. less than me. no thank you! yeah ill do some searching for a sealed cab. :)

Yeah, it's due within a month or so. It's soooo hard not to email PJ every day with 'is it done yet????'

I'd love to ship it to JP for pics but that would mean waiting even longer and risking shipping it all over the country.

I'll take some and post them...
