naw i completely understand lol. i've been there before!
when you can get a 4 ohm 810e for the same price as an 8 ohm 212, it's a hard justification since we're always fighting for volume. i'm very lucky and glad to have the gear i do.

But those ones are solid wings and fully rounded like the nt basses!!! Man... I wish the USA BO basses would be like that again.

Oh yeah, that's right, the older ones have a lot of body contour. The upgrades on the new ones are inlays, better figuring in the wood in some cases, and more neck options (wide, maple fingerboard). Hmm . . . a custom US bolt with the old style body and electronics, new neck and body wood standards.

in all honesty, you can find major deals on the M2000, M-Pulse 600 and BB750 usually. i know people who have picked up a used M2K with footswitch for like $600. that amp was my first Mesa and i would have no problems rocking one again. it's very much in the same vein as the Carbine stuff to me.

so donny, you like the gk. is it clearer than an ampeg? what makes it better for you?

Well first off let me just say I DO like ampeg 810 cabs. The best rig I've played through was an Ampeg 810 with 2 Sansamp RBI and a power amp. That rig hit HARD

The reason I went with GK and will stay with GK is I love the RB series tone... with the boost cranked you get an almost tubey response. The controls are easier to use the the AMpeg SVT heads. I also messed around with an SVT 4 pro / 810 rig for about an hour and I couldn't get a tone I liked. I was very underwhelmed.

With my rig now, the range of what sounds great is massive and I can easily adjust for the room I am in.

I will also say that the GK stuff doesn't color your tone like Ampeg.... which is all preference really. O and new the GK stuff is cheaper

When I start playing bigger venues, I wil move to the NEO series cabs since they have a MASSIVE sound, right now I'm using the MBE cabs and they have a HUGE sound

I'd like to try one too someday. I like GK's attack, they just seem to be missing a lil "extra" sometimes, not sure what it is. I'm perfectly content w/ my M9 but those are what I would probably test out next.

you know at first I thought the same thing. Then i dimed my boost. Also I find that if I EQ for the mix it slays... I shot for a Justin Chancellor's tone and I get close and cut through the mix

You can't beat Ampeg 810 for the price point...

im looking on gc used and found some pretty good stuff. prices are a little more than i want but there were a couple m-pulse heads for around $650-700. that's a little high for me. i found a few avatar cabs for $250 and $400 for a neo cab. not bad at all. so ill keep sniffing around. probably wont get nothing til next year, but i want to start now so i'll be definite in my decision when i buy

sweet. yeah i dont want my tone colored at all. when i play with just a regular sound, i want my bass to do the talking i played a gk 700 rb through an ampeg 8x10 once and it was nice except, my band at that time, use to tune down to c and that cab would fart so bad, so i had to trim the bass down a lot. that really turned me off to that cab. but the head was cool. im thinking and searching about what i want. im keeping my options open, but i have a friend that plays an avatar 4x10 and he swears by it. i need to go over to his house when it isnt put away in the rig trailer so i can check it out but we'll see what comes up.

interesting, never had an 810 fart on me before even with a 5 string. gotta hit those cabs with some watts. I could see the old fridge's @300w maybe though. Depends on the tone though too i'm sure. That's the tricky thing with ampeg, their deceptively simple. A little goes a long way and you have to play with it quite a bit to figue out what their doing. I think their heads have more in common with a marshall jcm800 that any other bass heads lol. Once you get them figured out though their pretty cool.

yes it does. ported cabs can get boomy. all that 30 hz tuned BS sounds great on paper and solo in the bedroom, but put it onstage and turn it up and its pretty much mud.

yeah the cab / combo's take some time getting used to. I could never get what i wanted till i messed with them for a bit. It was one of those " they always sound great live, and there the industry std backline for a reason. lets take some time and figure this thing out" moments.

eq ing those cabs can be tricky, and they project wierd too. they don't sound right (to me) 5 feet in front of them, but 20 feet back they kill. the roll off on the bottom end doesn't sound as big as some other cabs but when you put it in the mix it sits right where you (and the sound guy) want it.

lol and if you just don't like the cab that's cool too lol

ok is this ultra amber or black cherry stain?

it's supposed to be ultra amber i think, but the ultra amber on the website is much more orange, the black cherry stain pic is much closer to this one. or is the ultra amber just darker than the one on the site?

I think that is the Ultra Amber, good gosh that is awesome looking.

ya must have been a low wattage cab.
I don't understand the jcm800 comment... I've always found them easy to use, but I have found the Ampeg head a bit more "tricky" to dial in...

agreed... that is why I went with the mbe 410. A buddy of mine uses GK heads and Ampeg cabs and tunes down to C with no problem

what kind of music do you play? what are you using now?

right now i have an ampeg b210 combo im playing out of. but i used to have and svt410hlf and b2r head. i like the sound out of that but yeah when i cranked it up, it would get muddy and i got lost. i play in a band that plays cover songs of hard rock to metal.
