SPECTOR® Club - Part 31

The euro lx's are 35 not sure about the legends. The old 5's used to all be 34" scale and had a killer b . No slop and was articulate. I'd tune down a 34" Spector with confidence.

Awesome, thanks! I really still prefer the "feel" of a 5'er as it's way more "home" so was looking at the ReBop's but it's not really necessary for this application at the end of the day.

Cool clips john! Good to hear some tones from that unit without people trying to make it sound like a distortion pedal! Was thinking about picking up a bddi. Still on the fence though. It does a pretty nice svt type tone though.

That is the exact reason why I like this RBI so much. If I wanted an overdrive pedal, I would have gone that route but that is not what I was looking for in my tone. Sure, this thing can go pure fuzz if I want it to but I love how it can be subtle as well.

I love my Hartke head but it has a very clean tone so this now give me an option to dirty that up a bit without having to spend so much for Ampeg gear.

it all sounds good. i think 3rd part is growling and snarling. me likey ;)

Thanks man. The 3rd part has the bass and treble both boosted full which is something about the USA circuit I really love. My Euro 5LX has the trim pot tonepump and I cannot use too much treble or I start to cringe. That is a personal preference I am sure but with the 18V USA circuit, that isn't the case. I do notice some hiss in the tone when I blast the treble so I might look into an EQ pedal to try and see if i can get rid of some of that.

any one see the NSJH5 on the bay? stupid low price on a US bass.

Are you talking about this one?

Spector USA NSJH5 5 string bass | eBay

Personally, I thought that was a bit on the high side. It was made in 2003 and doesn't seem to have the the OBP-3 like the newer ones have since I don't see the 2 stacked knobs.

I love my Euro 5LX and I think my Mesa cabs love it even more!! Tone heaven!

So do most of you guys with the Haz circuit run the bass/treble full up? I remember recording once like that way back with my Kramer NS-2. Now I run them about 25% boosted from center.....
Thinking about trying it again.

yeah that's the one. geez your picky ! lol I thought the H/s pup config was cool. still a decent price for a US bass though I thought. There's a few legends up with the h/s pup config too. someone was talking about them on the last thread.

Naah, I find them full up is too much. I like em about 75-80% on the bass side and about 60% on the treb. blend in the middle. Same on the pump, but i roll the blend forward a little. :bassist:

I had a Brooklyn NS-2 a few years back, and ran both the B&T about where you have it, "midway" to full-on, so about 25% boost from "center detent".

On my NS-5 I ran Treble flat and boosted the Bass about 15-25%. The 18V Haz pre will fry your preamp and in a hurry with the tone controls that high (being full on or close to it).

god my band mates would cry with a set up like that. :bawl::bassist::bassist::bassist: totally rockin.

My rule is usually one 212 or 410 cabinet per full 412 guitar cab. I usually play "against" 2 half-stacks, so the 412 setup works great and you don't have to push the gear too hard. I love having headroom.
I'm seriously considering getting some of the new sealed Mesa cabs though when they're released. I think they're a little more "immediate" sounding vs. ported cabs. I had a Berg 610 before these with a 400+. That was an insane rig.

I boost the bass up to around 60-70% and keep the treble boosted to around 10%. That gives me a tone I really like the sound of so I tend to stick with that one the most.

I admit, I am very picky :) I have seen some USA bolt-ons like that go for around $1,400 which is why I thought that one is a bit high. If I was going to spend that much, I would probably save for a bit more and get a brand new one but that is just my insanity, lol.

ok is this ultra amber or black cherry stain?

it's supposed to be ultra amber i think, but the ultra amber on the website is much more orange, the black cherry stain pic is much closer to this one. or is the ultra amber just darker than the one on the site?

i agree. my dilemma is carrying that crap around. i did it for a long time and have no desire to do so any more. but i currently use an ampeg b210 combo and want to get a gk possibly. im going to try the whole "going through the pa" think and see how that goes at our next show. then ill decide if i need to "upsize" my stuff. and yes we have 2 guitar players, one plays through a 180 diezel half stack and the other through a pv 5150 half stack. and a drummer with the whole double bass set up. oh and a keyboard and 2 vocalists. so there has to be a solution.....:hmm:

honestly if it's a gig where i know i'll have a good monitor setup, i only bring 1 cab. the M9 plus 1 212 can get plenty loud.

Hey guys,
Does Spector made an additional 35" scale 4 string besides the Euro one that's currently available? I've been playing with a band and we're trying out drop B and I've been using this Ibanez BTB Prestige I have with is 19mm spacing, and even though I have big hands, it's still quite a stretch to use that low B so much.

So I'm looking at getting a 4 string that I can tune BF#BE but didn't know if the typical 34" scale would work well enough for that? I have a great tech who can set it up but just wanted to check beforehand. I thought about getting a 5'er but really in that tuning most all the notes are on the "low B" (or E I should say) anyway, so no need to make extra work for myself. I thought about tuning F#BF#BE but I'd probably need like a .185 or something low B to make that work!
We normally play in drop C and I tune my 5'er ACGCF so I can really get down and drop those "bombs" on the low B tuned down a step.

Thx!

As far as I know, you can only get the Euro 4 LX in a 35" scale. You can get it with the P/J pickups a or the TW pickups...

I would think you would be fine down tuning to B with some thick gauge DR Lo Riders or something with high tension

So besides that Euro, pretty much only the 5'ers now are 35" scale? Good to know.

I use a custom Circle K set right now that's probably who I'd hook up for this. They're a godsend for down/alternate tunings. :bassist:
