This is very true. The one thing I do find myself doing though is thinking too much while playing and that does get me to make mistakes so I need to work on that.
Ok, so I finally made a clip I didn't totally hate using my NS-5XLPlease be gentle
The first part of the clip is clean with the bass boosted and treble is flat.
The second part I have the RBI engaged using the Ampeg SVT settings.
The third part, I have the RBI engaged using the Ampeg SVT settings and the bass and treble boosted all the way.
The fourth part is clean with the bass and treble boosted all the way.
The riff is from the song "25 Years" by Pantera off the Far Beyond Driven CD.

The SansAmp is the best pedal/rack unit to grab...it opens up all kinds of tones....no need to carry the 100lb SVT.....ask me how I know....nice job John!

The clean tone is awesome, and the RBI just adds another dimension, if that makes any sense. And regarding the over thinking, I have that issue as well. usually I count, look at my fingers, and will them into submission until things sound good. Lol
Speaking of sansamps, I'm looking at getting a DI box to use for recording and to add a little grit to my sound. I'm not talking full distortion, just a light crunch + grind. I've looked at the sansamp pedal, the aguilar tonehammer, and the mxr m80. What do you guys use with your spectors? Other suggestions to check out?

Donny, I will give the update on that one in a few days...I am going into the store to check out the neck for thickness. It has been on ebay for a few weeks....15 min ride for me.

There are a few older ones around at about half the price of the one on the link above. They are not oil finish but they are czech made...I am looking at one or two myself...
I was looking for exactly the same, and had the same options as you, until the Darkglass B7k came to my attention. I think it's by far the best choice (and the most expensive one too)
Saved up a little more cash and ordered it today.

Thanks Jeff, and that was just one setting. This thing has a ton of tones to bring out so I want to record a few more to show them off.
Thanks Jaymi. That is what I kept reading over and over when I was looking into this thing. You do so much recording, I can definitely see you getting a ton of use out of something like this.
Are you looking at the pedal version of the Sansamp or does it not matter and you are ok with going with a rack mount unit like the RBI? I have not tried the Sansamp BDDI but I will say that the RBI has 2 more knobs that the BDDI doesn't. The RBI has a mid knob and also an XLR one as well so you do get a bit more control over the tone.
While I haven't tried the Aguilar pedal, I do own an MXR M-80 that I will be selling since i like the RBI better. The M-80 is a great pedal but I think it added too much fuzz to the tone I was looking for. I tried messing with the thing for a few days and just couldn't find a tone I was happy with so I decided to look into others.
Cool clips john! Good to hear some tones from that unit without people trying to make it sound like a distortion pedal! Was thinking about picking up a bddi. Still on the fence though. It does a pretty nice svt type tone though.

Hey guys,
Does Spector made an additional 35" scale 4 string besides the Euro one that's currently available? I've been playing with a band and we're trying out drop B and I've been using this Ibanez BTB Prestige I have with is 19mm spacing, and even though I have big hands, it's still quite a stretch to use that low B so much.
So I'm looking at getting a 4 string that I can tune BF#BE but didn't know if the typical 34" scale would work well enough for that? I have a great tech who can set it up but just wanted to check beforehand. I thought about getting a 5'er but really in that tuning most all the notes are on the "low B" (or E I should say) anyway, so no need to make extra work for myself. I thought about tuning F#BF#BE but I'd probably need like a .185 or something low B to make that work!
We normally play in drop C and I tune my 5'er ACGCF so I can really get down and drop those "bombs" on the low B tuned down a step.
