the vibrato you can hear in his playing here is unlike anyone else ever in rock, IMHO

Man I swear every time I hear that isolated bass it makes me want to rock that tone even if my band is jamming a country or reggae tune. To me, it's thee tone.

Wow, I don't think I have ever seen that bass Rex is using there before. The quilt on that thing is insane. At first I thought it was "brownie" but i paused it and it is a 4 string.

Yes, definitely. Like Jaymi mentioned, it is different and comes natural to the pre. With the tonepump, I feel like I have to add some treble to get a similar tone but on the Haz, it can be flat and you will hear it.

I'm not sure. I gave it to a local guy and gave him some sample pictures of what I wanted and this is what I got back

You know I've been talking to a few guys and I'm just not quite sold on the 9v haz. Not saying it isn't great but $250 better?

It's clearer in the low end an less harsh on the treble side for sure, but nothing that can't be adjusted on the TP...

In talking with Sam I think we have come to the conclusion that the haz is better for recording an the tp might have the edge live.

Keep in mind the haz guys here have USA basses... I have a tonepump in my ns4cr and it is wicked growly and the low end tightens up with the 18v mod

And that has the Fishman EQ doesn't it? I'm not fond of that EQ.

Yeah I believe it was a fishman, but one knob is not much of an EQ...


As for people talking about the haz/USA 9v circuit, it is definitely awesome, but for some people may not be awesome enough to justify the cost.

Yep, I've been spending a lot of time with Sam's Euro (I'll always refer to it as that) and the tonepump growl is more open and airy much like a Jazz bass but with more fundamental. The Haz is all about that grindy midrange that we all grew up on. .

The both sound spectacular. In fact, in the bedroom tone department I sometimes prefer the Tonepump. BUT when the band gets lit up and all those nice subtleties get washed out and BAM, that's where the magic of the Haz lies IMO. Live it cuts no nothing else.

Don't get me wrong.....the Euro does too and I agree it's a big bigger and clearer in the low end but those grindy mids in the Haz melt me every time.

I also find that the bass definitely affects the growl. Also my wireless pack offers the perfect amount of compression and I love the low end growl I'm getting

On his Euros, yes. His USA stuff was stock. But he's been pretty diehard Euro for a few years now.

I don't foresee my wife signing off on a wall of Ampegs either, which is unfortunate. She keeps insisting that she be the voice of reason. Reason, schmeason.

Haha. My wife just shot me down after I put a hundred bucks on the new Ampeg Micro Stack. Had to get my money back.

Have you guys seen this? I played it and it's perrty sweet for the price:

Told her I would then need to spend an extra $100, to get the cute and quieter MarkBass Micromark 801. Turned out to be pretty sweet and handles the B string better than any other practice amp I've ever played.
