My Rebop!

Nice! Did you just get it?

I scared to post this SUPER SERIOUS question for the club since we're about to go to part 34.:bassist: But what the heck, I'll just copy it over if we get locked out.

OK, had an emergency consult late last night with Pimp Daddy Sambo. I'm having a bit of a GAS attack for a TW pup'd Spector. I'm a little late to that party since I've been so focused on the PJ's. Here's my question for the experienced:

In single coil mode does it have a nice "J" type growl? Open, airy, nasally? Is it hollow and lacking fundamental? Is the volume drop between series/humbucker and single coil crazy or workable? And in general, how do you like your TW's?

Thanks fellers.

This might move over to the next part but you must have called him right after I left his house :) Did he tell you he ripped the TW's out of my blue Euro 5LX?

I just was not a fan of them and the volume drop annoyed the hell out of me. I admit, I didn't mess around with them too much but it was like I needed to add gain on my amp in order to bring the volume back up which drove me nuts. It's too bad that they are out now though or I would have recorded clips but wouldn't adjust the gain when changing to single coil mode so you could hear it.

I will say this. I am huge fan of a dual J pickup Spector and really want to get one since I love the sound of them but this was nowhere near that sound in my opinion.

Well, today is THE day I'm dedicating to playing my Spector Forte 5! I'll record some tracks for you all to listen to as I've been promising for at least 2 months now...and by now your eyes are glazed over and you're probably saying "yeah yeah ice, sure ya will"...lol truth be told, I hadn't played for a week now...:scowl: I spent all last week feverishly packing up and cleaning house to sell and looking at new homes. This morning wife declared that I'm to play my bass, eat lunch, play more bass, eat dinner and play more bass! Who can or would want to argue with their wife with terms like that, eh?!?! Haha! :D She's an awesome lady!
So with no further delays...see ya all much much later! :D

+1 John!!! There's something about JJ's that get nice and dirty! I always love the tone that guys here get from their NS-2 JAR's! Especially Jaymi's new Brooklyn! Even though my fav is P/J...I'm looking forward to having a JJ in my arsenal soon, my new Coda 5 DLX! I'm soooo juiced, the wait is killing me! Almost as bad waiting for my Forte 4! Nah...who am I fooling? WORSE!!!:rollno: Bahama Blue, BEM FB, Abalone inlays, highly figured Malple top, passive/active switching, 35" scale and oiled neck! SIGH....(:

Thanks John. Yeah we talked just after you left. He wasn't really speaking in complete sentences...something about Rebop's and blood sugar dropping to dangerously low levels.

He did send me one clip he made in dual humbucker mode. Like you, I was really hoping the TW's sounded a lot like a J/J.:bawl:

time to translate to the next part!!

Something tells me it won't happen until either tonight or tomorrow since its a holiday weekend.

Haha, it was a really long day and he just wouldn't stop. Swapping pre's and pickups on 2 basses sounded pretty easy on paper but once you get down to it, is just nuts.

Yeah, I am just going to get a Spector with dual J's at some point since that is the sound I really love. When Sam had his NS-2 JAR, I always loved that bass and it always had the best tone when he recorded the clips. I just didn't have the money when he sold it and needed to fund the Forte so that is probably what I will end up buying when I am ready.

Good news! I will finally be getting some recordings of my Spector NS20004 with the haz copy preamp!
We are recording a new demo, as our sound has changed a bit, our last demo I recorded with my Musicman-type bass I put together, but when I got the Spector I switched over because it had more low-mids and really had that grind and growl I was craving!

Hopefully sometime this week I will be able to post some of it :D

Great job bro!!! I really enjoyed listening to it! Thanks for sharing! Is this you singing also? Really good voice! Your Legend sounds just great in the mix too! Nice full, clear, rich tone! Keep up the great work!

Thanks! Nah, the vocals were handled by a friend of mine- he sings much better than I do, though I am trying to work on developing my singing voice- being able to sing and play is a skill that I can see being quite handy.

Sounds like your having a great memorial day! Mine's been about the same, except I have to devote significantly more practice time to the upright...
