SPECTOR® Club - Part 36

Now that is a cool amp. SWR users will instantly recognize the EQ section and the classic front panel layout. A collectible classic from Mr. Steve Rabe, and I'll bet it sounds freakin killer...

The funny thing is I didn't even seek it out, I saw it on Craigslist for a steal, so I decided to pick it up as a backup. When I blew something in my main amp at the time (one of the newer Acoustic amps), I swapped this one in, and I haven't stopped using it since!

Love it, I'm a big mids guy so I generally keep the "enhance" button off, but I use it as a mid-scoop button for a specific song, like when covering some heavy pick stuff from Tool. Easier than switching my EQ settings on the Spector.

I remember a while back (on several threads ago), you guys talked about where you got your strings for your Spectors. It was from someone on TB that had a good discount. Are they still available?

www.bassstringsonline.com I forget his handle on TB, but when you sign up email them and tell him you are a TB member and you will get VIP pricing. He is always quick with returning emails too.

He's a TBer who goes by the name Slapinfunk. His real name is Jason. Sign up on his sight and send him an email telling him you're a member of TalkBass and you'll get VIP pricing. I order all mine from him now.

I buy my D'Addario ProSteels by the case off of eBay from whoever has the lowest price at the time. Usually about $80 for 5 sets shipped.

I like the sparkle & zing of fresh steel strings, so I change them about every 15 - 18 hours of playtime. Multiply that by 10 basses, and it makes sense to buy cheap & buy in bulk.

EDIT: Thanks guys! I see bassstringsonline is even cheaper - I think the Spector Addict has found a new dealer. :bassist:

get a hold of slappinfunk on TB! I believe he owns/runs bassstringsonline.com He has a thread somewhere on here! He gives great deals to TB'ers and shipping is 2-3 days! You should def hit him up!

Thanks for the suggestions guys, it looks like I'll be checking my local craigslist regularly and saving up. I'm also looking to add a few more effects, ever since I bought my Source Audio BEF Pro I've been GASing for a Hot Hand (probably not the most useful for most things, but way cool). I'm thinking a good distortion like the MWBD would also be a huge benefit over the built in distortion on the Rumble 350. That and still considering upgrading the electronics in the Rex... so much GAS, so little $$$. :bawl:
That said, I can't really complain. My current set-up is considerably better than most my age, and its working fine for me now. There's just always something a little better out on TalkBass. :D

As for older Peavey stuff, I play through some sort of Peavey head and a Hartke 2x10+1x15 combined cab at my church (the church owns the rig). It sounds pretty good to me, although I've never had much time to really figure it out or try it at higher volumes.

i thought icebox had a ampeg pf500 for sale here on tb.
