Its possible that the Forte 5 will have wide enough Pot holes to accommodate the 18V pot controls. My Forte 4 had wide enough holes to handle the 9V Haz with no widening while the Euro would need to be widened for sure.

The 18V circuit comes all nice and ready to install with no soldering. If you wanted to do the 4th hole kill switch I am sure it could be added by your tech.

I am not sure why the 18V is so much less then the 9V circuit. The 18V was designed to work with the DCs that the Forte 5 has in it. Putting the 18V in your Forte 5 would make the tone just like a NS-5.

Thanks Sam and everyone else too. This helps a lot. I think I'm gonna end up going for the 18 in my forte 5 but it will be after the mass liquidation.

I'm going to say the most obvious thing first...change your battery.

Second most obvious suggestion: turn up the on board trim pot on the tone pump if you haven't yet.

Oh mine was used when I got it from BC. I was originally getting a CRFM but he sold it to me when it was already gone so he sent me the IH instead. I threw my usual upgrades in it and it sounds and looks awesome, but I really can't afford to hold onto it now. The Forte purchase changed everything for me. I'm thinking $1000-ish with a new gig bag, strings and set up. That's over half of what it would cost new and almost $400 less than what i paid (not including my upgrades) so I think that's a fair price. I'll spilt shipping too... I guess $40-$50 from the buyer and I'll cover the rest. If the buyer ends up living within 2 hours or so of me, I'll either meet them halfway or deliver it just to save us both the shipping costs and the wait time. I hope someone jumps on it.

Any idea why the 18v pre amp is so much less than the 9v? I'd really like to retrofit one of my Spectors with the 9v, but that's just way, way too much for me and I'm wondering if the 18v can cop the 9v tone effectively (feel free to opine on this as well).

I don't think you will have a problem fitting the 18V USA circuit in the Forte 5. Here are pics of the control cavity of my NS-5XL with the 18V circuit.

I find my Euro4lx is too light at the body compared to the NS-2A (the one I tried out at least) maybe its just this particular one, also the preamp in the NS-2A (the korean haz-copy) blows the tonepump out of the water. Tonepump isn't a bad preamp but it is just not able to match the warmth and fatness of that circuit board covered in transistors.

I like both, but I think the NS-2A is more my thing, thinking of selling the Euro 4lx and getting a Rebop and an NS-2A instead.

Did you swap in the smadder setup on the IH?

Just to show a comparison of the NS-5 with a empty Forte-4 cavity. (I am 99% sure the Forte-5 cavity is the same size as the Forte-4)
Should be plenty of room for the 2 batteries if you do the 18V circuit.

Thanks Sam - looks like the NS cavity is a bit smaller since the batteries are in a separate compartment, but I think it will all fit.

When it gets closer to decision time, I'll ask PJ. I'm sure they've gotten orders/requests like this before.
