Yeah, they pretty much got rid of all of their amps with old school toroidal transformer-based power sections, so the closest you can get to this is the B2000. It's still really affordable new, has a tube pre, but the rest of the pre is still based on the same class A circuit used in the B1500. But it also only weighs like 13 pounds because of the SMPS. I've played through a friends and it's... it's pretty insane. 2000 watts is a lot more headroom than I've ever experienced and it was pushing two old, old Bergantino 6x10s. So yeah. Coming back home to my two neo 2x10 cabinets really puts the word "power " in perspective. As well as the words "volume" "hearing loss" "what" "sh!t that hurt - can we turn off the tweeters?" and "oh my god I can feel it in my lungs."

I can't speak to the Mesa, but knowing Lee's love for amplification (Lee, you should really re-post that shot you have of your "stack 'o heads" and update it while you're at it) and knowledge, if he says it can hold it's own, it's probably worth trying the latest incarnation of it from Carvin to see if you like it before dropping the green for a Mesa. Carvin has a good "send-it-back-if-you-don't-like-it" policy. And their warranty service is really incredible.

Anything else I need to put in quotes? Nope I'm done. I'll wait for the next thread.

The latest Carvin amps sound fine....the bx500 is a nice little micro head......however the b2000 does NOT have the boom and balls of the discontinued B1500. I tried going lightweight but it was not worth the sacrifice......ask Lee......


I'm sticking to the statement......however if you want to go LARGE watts....try the bx1500........its a good modern light head.......i'm stepping off my soapbox......LONG LIVE THE B1500

I need to check out some new amps. I don't like to sacrifice anything for tone, but it's enticing when they are sooo light!

Right now I am using a ShuttleMax 12 and it's just not cutting it!

I'm running a Crown amp with a Peavey tube preamp onto a GK Neo 4X10 that sounds great. These new Crowns amps are great for the money.

That's always the case right? I don't need what I have for sure but I need the tone, if it doesn't sound right I will never be happy.

That's the way I am! I had a US svt3 pro in college and loved it. I have yet to find another amp that has the "OH MY " effect on me ...and I've even tried other svt3's from the same era...nothing sound sits right in my ears!

...and so the search continues...

I got to meet smadder today in beautiful downtown Augusta, GA today. We got to swap travel stories and Spectors.

He's now got my beloved white eurolx con hazlab. I now have some random guy's Forte 5 (#21).

Holy crap, US neck through spectors are nice!

Holy crap, I suck at 5 string.

Holy crap, smadder smells like gasoline.

And holy crap, that music store owner was a real anti-semite.

Pleasure meeting you Steve! Look forward to getting together again soon, playing Spectors and causing more trouble.

Thanks Jim! I promise I'll post the whole story once the new thread gets going. Definitely and interesting day, that's for sure.

And I now understand the fuss over the USA 9v circuit. I totally get it. But I'm gonna still reserve a complete judgement until after I get some new strings on it and either a: take it all apart and thoroughly examine/tinker/clean it to death, or b: take it to my tech for a buffing and full setup/sandwich making. I'm leaning towards choice b simply because my tech has been wanting to get his hands on a bass with the 9v in it ever since I switched over to Spectors several months back.

And I am looking forward to one day owning a US 4-string, but I do love the Euro's. A lot. And every incarnation of them I've gotten to try out has never failed to delight and amaze. Incredible basses for the money. I just wish I liked the Tone Pump more than I do... but I still promise to give it a thorough listen when my white Wimbish (thanks for confirming that for me Patrick) comes in (supposedly around the end of the month). Donny is no slouch when it comes to tone, so I need to sit with one for a few days and let it soak in more than I have let it in the past. But I rarely have second impressions with gear that totally reverse my opinion... we'll see.

I thought, well let me just see what this ole hunk of steel sounds like first. I remember I just kept repeating "holy crap, holy crap, holy crap"....over and over and over. I couldn't believe this one had slipped under my radar for so long. I was actually a little embarrased. After a long practice it's my new number 1 (B1500). I do realize I'm honeymooning but I'm tellin' ya.

First I want apologize for all the mistakes I probably made in this message.
English is not my native language.

The last year and a half I followed the Spector thread on a daily basis.
I always loved the sound of a Spector bass, but the american basses are hard to get here in europe.
20 years ago I went to a music store and there it was a Spector NS2O. I tried it and I loved it. The owner told me the bass was in the shop for more then 2 years and he didn't sell it because it was an expensive bass. I didn't had the money also, but I wanted it so bad. The same day I went to the bank for a loan and they gave me the money. (at that time music was my profession so it was not a strange thing to ask for). The next day i drove to the shop again to buy the bass, but the owner told me he sold it the day before. I just could not believe it. I searched everywhere for a Spector, but could not find another one so I bought a warwick streamer. This has been my main bass for about 18 years.

In holland we have a site called Marktplaats where you can sell and buy almost everything (It's now owned by e-bay) and one day I saw it, an american spector NS2. I told my girlfriend there was a NS2 for sale and she asked me 'Is this the same kind of bass you told me a hundred times about?' and I said yes. She told me to contact the seller and the same evening we drove two and a half hour to buy the bass. The bass was not taken good care of, but it was played a lot. (A bass that has not been played a lot will not sound as good as a bass that has been played a lot).

The last year my bass has undergone a fretjob and I installed a Hipshot D-Tuner and a new bridge with intonation screws. (I think it was worshiprocker who told me Spector also shipped overseas.) Now I finally have my dream bass and it plays wonderful.

Why am I writing this 'My Spector Story' down? Well I am always careful about what I post on the internet. My daughter tells me she has about a 1.000.000+ friends on Facebook and I always say 'Yeah real friends'. But last night when I was checking Talkbass I read about what all you guys did for chris and I just could not let it go. I know everybody supports another when they are confronted whith illness, bad auditions or racism(smadder ignore that ash***), but what you did for Chris is amazing. This is a community that I respect and I would be honered if I could get a number.

On another note, since I'm going to be using the Carvin for awhile. I'm putting my brand new to me Ampeg SVP Pro (pre) up for sale soon. You guys will obviously get first dibs (cheap) if you want it. Ampeg tone and a WHOLE lotta gain available if you want grit.

Welcome to the Carvin B1500 Lee..........the honeymoon NEVER ends........I play my thunderfunk 550B which is a sweetheart of an amp and everytime I plug into the Carvin I go..........."I'm sorry I cheated on you baby!" YES.......it's just THAT GOOD!

Great story!I forget how fortunate we are that Spectors can be easily found.I'm glad you've found your dream bass!Is the bass in the picture the one you said was not taken good care of?It looks good to me!!
