I started playing bass in 1988. I remember getting the "Slap Bass Program" VHS tape. That nerdy guy played a beautiful spector. I loved the shape, it sounded great and you could tell it played great. A few hair band bassists had Spectors but I wasn't into that kind of music. There are no music stores in Alabama or near Alabama (including Nashville) that carry Spector. A few years went by and I guess I forgot about Spector basses. My dad bought me a Kawai KRB 69 bass. It was a cool bass and I still have it. But it isn't a spector. I've had a couple of carvins and a Steinberger.
In the mid 1990s, a local music store had a used Warwick bass. I saw that shape and remembered "there is that awesome bass I've always liked". I took it down and it played like a petrified turd. I spent the next 15 or so years playing Modulus and Fender.
2011 I bought my first NS2a. now I have 3. I feel like I play like me with Spector basses. It's exciting like it was in 1988.
I like NS2As, if I get anything else it will be a USA Kramer NS2 or NS2o. I really like that black/quilt at bass central too.
