Thanks man. 3mm sounds like it is really thick, but since you are mostly a finger player like me, I will give them a shot. I will pick up some of the others you mentioned also just to give them a comparison and see what I like. Thanks for the info.

Its not as bad as you think. Especially with the hole cut in it. The 1.5 is nice. I used the tortex 1.14 mm exclusively for many years with guitar. I find the small dunlop jazz 3's to be really cool and I think they are like 1.2? Not sure though.........try as many as you can. If you dont use picks or havent, they will all feel foriegn anyway......lol :D

I might just have to sell it with another pre and but another NS2A for the MM114. Who knows. I have a week off after Christmas so I think I will be doing a lot of experimanting and switching things up then. And be sure and let me know if DT makes it up around Seattle to do any shows. I'll be there for sure.....

Thanks! I'll shoot him a PM! It was a long time coming to pick one of these up. Back in 89, just before I went on a 20 year hiatus I had money down on one of these. I got fed up with the jokers I was playing with and called it quits. So when I started playing again a couple years back it was an itch that had to be scratched!

I really would like to develop a 3 finger technique but there are just so many other things i need to work on and I think I should learn to play with a pick also.

with dunlops I like 1.14 thickness.... the gravity pick that I am liking is 1.5 classic. Honestly I'm not blown away with the gravity picks. They are cool, but nothing special in my opinion... and I like "disposable" picks... I tend to throw them in the crowd every couple of songs.

Yeah, that sure is true. I will need to add some pick time to my practice schedule so I can get used to them more.

I do plan on trying a bunch of different types of picks out just to see which I like the best. I don't play out like you so all I need to worry about is my dogs don't get a hold of them. That's all I need is my dogs eating a 5 dollar pick :D

Because I converted my NS-2A over to a USA (current with intonation screws) Spector Bridge, I had to created a custom route template.

It actually screws into the 3 bridge bolt holes and has the necessary space to allow a small router bit into it to take out the extra space so the USA Bridge will fit. The only issue is that you have to be REAL careful with the depth of your router bit. Too deep and you'll mess up how the bridge sits... the same as if you go too shallow. I did it this way because I don't own a router, but I've got an industrial Dremmel set with a router bit.

So you have to take it really, really slow. And then there's the issue of fixing the finish you remove by exposing new cuts into the wood.

I used the Re-Ranch's gloss black guitar paint to gently (and I mean gently) cover the newly exposed wood.

I don't have time until the weekend. But I don't mind sharing the template design and measurements if you want to try that yourself.

Just know, use it at your own risk. If you mess up your bass, it's totally on you. I took my time and did the work on my bass over about a two week period and it turned out just fine.

thank you patrick, but im really uncomfortable with routing the bridge space. i cant even cut a straight line with a saw if my life depended on it. carpentry skills are non-existant for me. so it looks like i'll be stuck with what's on there now. oh well, it was worth a shot :)

Okay, got my New NS-2 this morning at 9:30, thanks to Sam, PJ, Steve, Patrick, and everyone else who pulled strings to get me this playable piece of art!!

First of all, it is beautiful. It is just "ME". It plays, sounds, looks, feels, just everything is perfect for me. I have never just picked up an instrument and been like, Yup, every little thing is perfect, I wouldn't change a thing.

Born 10/05/12, serial number 803, 3 away from Sam's #800.

I played it when I got it this morning until my hands hurt, then went in and found out my blood numbers were low (we were expecting that, I finished a round of chemo last week, that is what is suppose to happen) but the transfusion center was closed or full until Thursday which means I had to go to the ER for my transfusions of blood and platelets. I should be out in the morning and back home to my family and my incredible new Spector bass. I wouldn't have had to go in if the transfusion center was open, but the numbers were low enough to not be able to wait until Thursday, but again, no worries, we were expecting this.

Okay, here are some pictures I took this morning very quickly before I went in for my appointment.

Again, thanks so much for everyone who got this to me.

Best man, can't wait to get home tomorrow and play it again.

Congrats again. I am very proud to be part of the string puller to get this bass to you ASAP.

Now for some humor, which I know is important to keep your mind functioning during these difficult times. (It really does **** to be in he ER)

For the record, I wasn’t the one who pulled the G String. I think that was Steve. ;) :hiding:
I slapped some Heavy Pimp Hand down on the E and A Strings. :D
