These CRFMs are a great value. I put the Aggie OBP-2 in and it sounds amazing with the all maple wings and brass bridge. I've yet to play a Forte, but I can pretend with this one.

Hmmmmm. Actually, no. I didn't know that you could run the OBP2 at 18v. Reaching for the soldering kit...

Actually Aguilar and EMG recommend 18V operation.

Do the removable mod to keep it simple for yourself.

Here's my '86 NS-2. It's the only bass I ever named on account of the name that was lightly scratched into the upper horn: "Shea Roxi"

Turns out it used to belong to the bass player of a band called "Shea Roxi" after doing some searching on the web.

In and on steroids from the chemo today, so wide awake at 1:00 AM. Just got home and some of the black hardware got here (bridge isn't here yet...) for my Coda deluxe so I put it on. I always loved the Black hardware on the maple, what do you guys think?

I like! Your basses look amazing! Just curious, do you find it awkward switching back and forth between the NS body/24 frets to the Coda/20 frets? I'm kinda tempted to give a Coda a try, but I keep thinking of the awkward feeling I would have switching between my P Bass and the Spectors.

Using Sam's image above, I did this exact mod on my CRFM, which has an Aguilar OBP-2 in it and it sounds fantastic! It's really easy to do and you can undo in seconds if you don't like it.

I'm thinking the same thing. I'm really wanting to pick up a J bass, but the us Coda's a bit out of my reach. Looks like ill be selling some gear and saving up!

Exactly! Slap a TonePump w/trim pot in it at 18v and Some active EMG J pickups and your good to go.

Hypothesis:

I'm redoing my MIM Fender P-bass. Installing 2 EMG-HZ 40s and a TonePump.
Should I redo the headstock in a Coda shape & write "Spector Capo" on it? ^_^

PS: The reason I'm using EMG-HZ 40s is because I will have them lying around after I change the pickups/pre in my ReBop, and there's a nasty bridge pickup route that needs a 4" pickup to cover it. I may slant them, if I can get away with it, to try & mimic the reverse P placement on the NS.

Thanks man, I dig the black hardware when I woke up this morning, so I think it stays.

To answer your question, I kind of "get ready" to switch in my brain if that makes sense. I am either ready to play my NS-2 or ready to play the world's greatest Jazz Bass (IMHO - At least the greatest one I have ever played)

They are VERY different basses, you forget how comfortable, form fitting and again my opinion, that the NS-2 is. The Coda body is huge, like it is suppose to be, it really almost dwarfs the NS-2 when they are together.

I will say they are both very comfortable to play, play awesome, sound awesome (duh, they are Spectors).

I got the Coda because I wanted something totally different from the NS-2, but still be Spector. That's what I got. It's a bit of adjustment playing with the fret difference, but a minute or 2 both basses just feel "right" to me...

The Coda line has really come to life!

Just had a mooch at the new Spector website - i think theres a mistake on the previous models section. It lists the NS20004 and NS20005 models as having a flat body the same as the Performers. I've owned both and the NS2000's had a fully carved body (front and back although not quite as rounded as the Euros etc....)

Also thinking about a Coda 5DLX later this year.

I've seen several with the maple board and Spector crown inlays, but has anyone see a Coda with the pau ferro AND crown inlays? That's what I would want for sure, plus a matching headstock and 35" scale. Oh yeah....

Interesting. I'm looking at picking up an NS20005 on Saturday. The back's not carved, at all. The front looks like it has slight carving.
