Glad that bass was saved.....

Here is a pointer on taking pictures of basses- turn off the flash. The colors will come out more natural. If the photos are to dark, move to a better lit room, move a lamp near it or take pictures outside. If the photos are blurry, hold the camera real still or better, use a tripod.:bassist:

Thanks Supes. I took a risk and got lucky - that's all. But boy does the pre-amp sound fine! I keep turning everything back on and just sit there listening to open notes... typical Spector tone monster... it's a real treat (understatement). I can't wait to get a US 9v in the white bass...

Thanks, man! I just put a post-it with those tips on the camera for the next time I defile it (which consists of turning it on, in my case).

So I'm lucky enough to have a friend who is a genius luthier (and Sam! Cannot over-emphasize the awesomeness of Sam), otherwise this bass would have ended up as trash. It was that bad, and the owner/guy I bought it off of knew absolutely nothing about it. Zero.

It looks great, I was wondering what happen to that bass, it was about 4 months back. I am glad it worked out ok.

That was just one of my "pimpin" a good deal to you on that one. You should try to keep it after getting all that work into it.

I was going to just make one "super build" but I kept going back and forth on what finish and options, so I just decided to go for it and get separate builds.

First one is a pretty standard NS-6XL. Black cherry gloss, stock 45DC's and 18v. Originally thought about ebony on this, but after some discussion here and with PJ I decided to stick with the pau ferro. This one is going to have a "thin" neck option so hopefully it will play similarly to the Webster.

The other is an NS-5XL. I really came close to going for a 35" scale NS-2 for BEAD tuning, but even when I'm not using the G string a lot, it feels better when it's there. Since I have the used blue NS-5XL with DC's and 18v, I decide to try to make this one as close to an NS-2 in sound as possible. So it's going to have a US 9v and the 40P5 and 40J pickups. I can always drop DC's in later to experiment. Here's the fun part: ultraviolet high gloss with the BEM board. I'm not too worried about the difference in tone between a pau ferro and BEM board so I went with the BEM because it's just too sexy not to have one.

Depending on how much I can make from selling the Euros I'll be moving in the summer and some other stuff I have to sell (non-music related), I *may* try to get another build in towards the end of the year. I'm thinking a fretless with your NAMM green glossed with an ebony board. Oh mama....

EDIT: Oh and before anyone asks - gold hardware. :D

I know I sound like the Spector encyclopedia today but I have been really enjoying this new Stone Sour CD. Yeah, I know it's been out for months but I just got around to listening to it the other day and have to say it really is great.

Looking further into it though, Rachel Bolan played bass on both of the new CD's so you know what that means don't you? Spector's were used and I heard a rumor that it was 2 Euro 5 LX's but I am not sure if that is completely true or not. Yes, that is Johny Chow playing bass in the video but he was hired in the band after the recordings were done.

Thanks! I almost went with the other violet but I looked at the pics again and figured what the hell. It sounds like this will be the first ultraviolet NS-5XL assuming no one ordered one before me.

I'm going with the 4A quilt. It was a tough decision but I've seen plenty of US builds with 4A that look great. I think the black cherry and the ultraviolet will both bring out the quilt even in 4A.

Ordered a set of flush mount strap locks to go on my Matte Euro today. That came with the Dunlops, I prefer the Schallars but I figured I would give Dunfell another try. I like the flush look.

I installed the Spector 18v circuit in the Rebop with the 40p and 40j and decided that the 40dc was better for the bridge than the 40j. The j just didn't have the output close to what I thought it would have. I have a issue with it killing the batteries even when unpluged. Anyone have this issue? I will post some pictures when I get home tonight, but I believe that everything is hooked up correctly since it has the ports. Also, there is a mid control port on the 18v circuit, has anyone used this and what mid control will this work with?

Congrats! Its always exciting when somebody has an order in for a USA Spector, two is even better. Like everyone else on this board, I never get tired of looking at USA Spectors!

Never had the problem with the batteries draining while unplugged. Could it be a faulty jack or bad wiring? Something in the materials, not the installation? I know that they are so meticulous when they're building them and that it's done by hand, but it doesn't mean a bad jack doesn't come from switchcraft sometimes (or something similar) you know what I mean?

I noticed the "mid" terminal on my US 18v circuit too but never asked of it was a preset midrange jumper kind of thing or a terminal where another pot could go... no idea. That sounds like a Sam/Patrick ballpark question to me... but isn't it an awesome sounding circuit? What did you think of it once you settled on the DC/P combo?
