I'm never going back to round wound. I can't wait for these tapewound nylons to really break in, because its actually accented the Spector growl even more than I figured it would. The B was kind of iffy when I first put them on but as the strings have settled its lost some of its "bwow" tone and become more rounded.

Cool! I've a used set of GHS black nylon tape wounds that were on my Forte 5 that I'm thinking of putting on my Coda 5XL or NS-2000/5...

The last band I played guitar in the bassist had a PF300. We played a show it made it half way through 1 song before going into protect mode. To bad because it sounds really good. I would be gassing for a SVT 7 Pro if I havent read all the horror stories.

I heard the PF-350's had problems...I had a PF-500 that I'd crank to 9 going thru my PR-410HLF for 2 days at an outdoor concert without issues.

New Spector owner here. Received a euro Wimbish model today, really really digging the ergonomics of it so far. I've had no luck to this point finding anything that came close to my Ibanez basses for playability but this thing is every bit as good. Perfect balance and it just hangs in the right spot. Love the neck profile as well, it might just be slightly better than the Ibanez necks I'm so fond of due to it being a bit more round on the back which really lets my hand get around the neck well. This has always been a big hang up for me having been through a lot of nice basses that just weren't quite there ergonomically.

Sound wise it's hard to tell just yet. It's certainly aggressive so I can't wait to get it in the mix and see how it does. Initial impressions tell me it's going to cut really well which is important since I'm up against 2 guitarists and 3 full Marshall stacks haha. The tone pump was overdriving the amp so I dialed it back but I'll wait until practice to really get it set. Plus the strings are brand new so they ring out like mad with my heavy handed pick style. A couple of hours will calm things down.

I'm not sure what gauge strings come standard but they feel a bit slinky to me, does anyone know what gauge I would safely be able to move up to? Normally I use a 115 set but I'm not sure I can get that in the nut. Anyway, oblig pic.

Congratulations on your awesome Doug Wimbish! Welcome to our Spector family! That has an adjustable gain TonePump pre and you can dial it back, recommend 45-60%. That way it won't clip your amp so bad either.

Congrats on the new bass, I loved the neck on my Wimbish. You should be able to string a .115 on it with no issue. Anything larger just order some tapered strings and slightly file the nut with a round file if needed.

So at 2:00pm Tuesday I get a FaceBook posting notice from our bands leader,"We just got asked to perform a few songs for a Baccalaureate tonight at 7pm, rehearsal at 6pm." So I said I'll be there. Show up at 5:30pm to setup, KB, Lead vocal, 3 backup singers, and our lead vocal. No drummer or guitars.:scowl: Ran thru 6 songs...a bit sketchy
7pm, TO WAR! Very thankful for the tonal palette with my Coda 5XL! Since our 2 guitars were MIA, I decided to cut bass a bit and turn up treble a tad more, hoping to spice up the tone some. It all came together just great... Unbelievably! I received several hugs and thank you's from mothers that had graduates there, for filling in at the last moment and sounding so fantastic. YES! Spector scores another! As it happened... Another band cancelled out the night before. It was a lot of fun playing for a bunch of graduating Seniors...they deserved to have a band playing for their special day.

Haha yeah I heard it was cheap, but I don't have a solder gun or the knowledge of how to use one so I'll gladly buy one off eBay for 4 bucks!

I play in drop C# and find that a .120 is great for that tuning. no problems with the stock nut or bridge. I'm using d'addario balanced tension sets

If it's stock it's got EMG-SSD pups.
These are passive. Not hooked to the battery in the first place, so.........no advantage.

Second, this also has a Tone Pump "Jr.". Has anyone tried running one of these at 18 volts? Not sure if it's meant for it or can take it without problems.
