I've been considering doing that but for the few standard drop C songs I want the open C. The main thing keeping me away from it though is the B string being in the way the majority of the time.

It's fun to play on a new bass with thinner strings, it really is easier to play but we're more Judas Priest than Rush so its not really a hindrance for me to use big thick strings to get the heavy palm mutes thumping.

I like the feel of a 5-string regardless of tuning. I still have one BEAD bass I will keep as a backup for gigs. But for drop C, I actually setup one of my Euro 5LX's CGCFBb. So it's like have the range of a 6-string bass with drop C on the bottom.

The band is tuned to C standard. I don't really care for 5 strings and low B's. this setup allows me to be tuned along w the band for fingering and where I play the song. I specifically use the 35" scale 4 strings bc then u can keep better tension without going to quite as large a string.

Just personal preference but the 435's have been perfect for me.

Interesting. I've always played with bands in standard - 440 tuning with the occasional Eb tuning. I'm realizing there are a lot of people out there using special tunings in order to achieve a certain "sound". My guitarist has a Hipshot extender on his 'Paul for drop D but that's it. That's of no consequence to me when I'm on my 5. I just recently bought a CRFM 4 string (EADG) and am diggin' on that when I can, but I still love to go to that low B when the song allows. :bassist: As you said, just my personal preference.

The Blue double cut is Maple and very heavy, Joe wanted a Travis Bean body style and they used Joe's T.B. body for the model. two more were later made for him in the Blackhawk body shape and were not as heavy and this one was retired. That info is from Elwood Francis who at that time was Joe's Guitar tech. The Black LP style was on of Several made but the only one with P-90's This was Lumpy's personal guitar, he traded it to Elwood who was kind enough to let it go live with it's brother once again!.....
