Yup! Nothing like getting out under the lights, behind a PA, and in front of an audience.
It's amazing how different their tunings are with each singer. With Dio, they tuned a half step down (hey, that is Lee's bands name, LOL) and with Ozzy they are using C standard. I know they tuned to C# way back in the day too after Paranoid if I am not mistaken.
I have my NS-4 tuned down to D G C F with a .115 set of the new Dunlop Heavy Core strings and the tension feels great but that is a massive neck on that bass so I don't think it will move. They have been on for almost a week and the neck is still great on that bass and the tension is nice. I am going to see how C G C F feels with that .115 but I think it will be too floppy.
Yeah, I have a set of the .158 set of Circle K's on my Rebop 5 tuned down to G# and they feel great. I really want to get another set but will wait for a sale since they are really pricey. That set comes to a little over $40 at normal price so it's a bit hard to justify at the moment. One day I should just drive to Virginia to pay Coop a visit so he can set my Rebop upHe really knows what he is doing with all the drop tunings and the different tensions.
They are going to start offering bulk prices week after next.
So what you're doing is tuning down a step and a half? I can see why you go for higher gauge strings. How far can you go without changing the nut?

All my basses are 34 scale so there is a little difference in tension I forget what the calculation is. Bunk has a cool Excel chart to plug in the numbers that works well. If you look at the Bass Player issue you can see the taper on the black strings that he is using. Seems like a rather large taper for a .115. Do your .115's have a taper like that?

Yes, I don't care for the "floppy" aspect of tuning down, so the 35" scale is great to me. I seem to recall Bunk's chart putting me more at at 125 or so, but I"m pretty happy with the .115 right now. LIke I said, I got his "faux forte" 435 and the .135 was just way too much for my taste tonally.
The GHS Boomer .115 is not tapered. I may try a few different brands now that I found the gauge that works. I will say that the .115 fits just fine in the bridge. However, I think once you hit .125, you need to go taper. Bunk had a tapered .135 on there for sure.

Congrats on the new project! It has been a little tricky for me as of late. One band tunes standard tuning. The metal tribute band tunes to D, but our transition to an original band is in C. Still had a show to play recently in D though (original project not gigging until album is finished). Then I did a fill-in gig with a band that was in Eb and just last weekend a reunion gig with an old band, also in Eb. Needless to say, my tech who sets up all my basses (it is great to have your good friend and a pro tech also be your tenant, endless free setups) has been busy.
As of this week, my 2 435's are in C, my Euro 4LX is in D and my NS4 is in Eb.

I have an extra string, Dean Markley Blue Steel .100, that is brand new. I have no use for that particular gauge. If someone in the club can use it, I'll be happy to mail it to you no charge.

Trust me, I feel you! Today at work, I get an email from the club Tipitina's (rather famous New Orleans music venue) announcing an upcoming show. The name of the band was, get ready for it:

That is right, 3 exclamation points. However, you call them tsk, tsk, tsk or bam, bam, bam or any 3 of the same words. I"m like what the *&$% is this. Meanwhile my much younger and hipper coordinator gets excited, knows all about them and orders tickets. I must admit, I've never heard of any of the bands she is into. My last 2 conerts were the Black Crowes and Queensryche. Next up are Black Sabbath and Robert Plant. I'm officially an old fogie.
To add insult to injury, I went to the mall and hated all the clothes. I went to Sears and found what I was looking for.
Then my wife buys me a Dickie's shirt, but it was way too tight across my gut. We realized that although an XL, it was "Young Man's Fit".So yeah, GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!!!

LOL... But hey, you're doing it. Different basses for different tunings. That's cool. The band I'm in now are the same guys I've been playing with since 2000. The drummer I first played in a band with in 1984. Standard tuning except for the occasional drop D courtesy of Hipshot. But that's just the guitarist. I just grab the 5 string on those songs. Yup, old school and loving it! LOL
It's all good. Like when I'm riding my Harley. If your on a Kawi, BMW, or whatever; so long as your knees in the breeze you're good. And here, so long as you're a player, you're a brother. Word!
Can I have a number? Just picked up this euro 5 from fellow TB'er MDBass. My first spector and man this thing is massive! That tone is to die for through my terror bass 500 and Berg 210, getting a little use to the 5 string then I'll take it to practice with my mesa 400+ and ampeg 410. Here are a couple shots I took with my other main bass ;-)

I only have the one.
The first one (that got sold) was a later model (bubinga, black hardware) that ended up with TW's and an eventual Aguilar OBP-1. This was the bass that taught me how much I would come to dislike the TW's. Between that and the not so great build quality (fretwork, deadspots) this one got sold.
Replaced it with a Euro 6LX (poplar burl).
Then I stumbled on another Legend 6 in bubinga. Older model (gold hardware, upsidedown blurb on the back of the headstock) that someone had already put DC's and a Tone Pump in (eventually replaced with a trim pot version). I was stunned at the overall much better build quality and acoustic/physical responsiveness of this bass over the nearly identical, yet newer, other bubinga Legend 6 I'd owned previously.
In fact, this bass is so good (especially the fretwork) it made me part ways with the Euro 6LX.
I've also since added a brass nut to this puppy.
And yes, it's all running at 18 volts.

Probably '89 or '90 (1994 would be impossible for that bass).
At $4,999 it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaay over priced.
They seem to be going for about $1800-$2200 these days.

Yeah, these super low tunings aren't for me. basses tuned that low seem to loose all their "punch" and have no hope of being heard on a standard sound system.
I like my notes to be heard AND felt.
I've actually even played it for a few moments. Personally I prefer stainless steel strings, but the combination of the maple body of the Rex Pro and the character of the flats is pretty great! Perfect attack.
My brother plays in a crust / hardcore band, so, well, you can do anything with a Spector.
Slap sum pro steels on adjusted the pick ups raised the action slightly and BAM !!!! Forte #36 is a mean machine. So Happy I could S!#$ . OBP-2 is very nice but I still like the tone pump for its place among the pre's .
