Trust me, I feel you! Today at work, I get an email from the club Tipitina's (rather famous New Orleans music venue) announcing an upcoming show. The name of the band was, get ready for it:

That is right, 3 exclamation points. However, you call them tsk, tsk, tsk or bam, bam, bam or any 3 of the same words. I"m like what the *&$% is this. Meanwhile my much younger and hipper coordinator gets excited, knows all about them and orders tickets. I must admit, I've never heard of any of the bands she is into. My last 2 conerts were the Black Crowes and Queensryche. Next up are Black Sabbath and Robert Plant. I'm officially an old fogie.

To add insult to injury, I went to the mall and hated all the clothes. I went to Sears and found what I was looking for. Then my wife buys me a Dickie's shirt, but it was way too tight across my gut. We realized that although an XL, it was "Young Man's Fit".

So yeah, GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!!!

LMBO!!! :O I like keeping bass playing simple. We have a fill in female lead singer who's voice is 2 steps lower than our regular lead singer. So we have to change keys when she's with us, like this weekend. But we don't change our string tuning for her. A couple years back we had another fill in lead singer/acoustic electric guitar who without notice would just capo from song to song and not tell anyone...NOT COOL! Was that a Clint Eastwood from Grand Torino quote? Love that movie!

I know how you feel about the clothing and new bands (except for clothing fit ) Where we live in Northern Michigan it's like being in a time capsule but in a good sort of way. If you wear either Carharts, Eddie Baur, North Face or Columbia...that's all you need. Very simple...just shop at your local Dunham's sporting goods store. Lol We do have a JCP in Petoskey. For me it's simpler... Just shop at my online Spector Store.

LOL... But hey, you're doing it. Different basses for different tunings. That's cool. The band I'm in now are the same guys I've been playing with since 2000. The drummer I first played in a band with in 1984. Standard tuning except for the occasional drop D courtesy of Hipshot. But that's just the guitarist. I just grab the 5 string on those songs. Yup, old school and loving it! LOL

It's all good. Like when I'm riding my Harley. If your on a Kawi, BMW, or whatever; so long as your knees in the breeze you're good. And here, so long as you're a player, you're a brother. Word!

Can I have a number? Just picked up this euro 5 from fellow TB'er MDBass. My first spector and man this thing is massive! That tone is to die for through my terror bass 500 and Berg 210, getting a little use to the 5 string then I'll take it to practice with my mesa 400+ and ampeg 410. Here are a couple shots I took with my other main bass ;-)

They are Performers. The easiest way to tell is the yellow Spector logo and standard bridge. A few after on that page is a Korean Made Q4Pro (predecessor to the Legend series) which is nicely priced.

Is the Q4Pro better than the Legend, or around the same? I played one the other day at GC and loved it, but it was a 5 string.

Its about 45 minutes from me, Were are you ? Guitar Center Danbury luckily has very little bass stuff, LOL

Thanks man! Yeah I was actually pretty surprised it didn't go for more too.

I've been emailing back and forth a bit with PJ, and he's been super helpful.

He's not sure if the new US 9v will be compatible with the 2 switches for active/passive and the phase switch.

After looking at the wiring and the layout of the US 9v, I'm not sure it would work either. The fact that the US 9v is circuit board mounted kind of complicates things a bit.

I may end up just having the two switches stay non operational, which is OK with me. I did like the idea of an active passive switch but no biggie.

That just leaves me debating between going with the original Dimarzio Pickups OR going with the tried and true EMG's which I like.

I'll keep you guys posted!

Using a switch to cut off the battery is still possible. I don't know if you're comfortable making a home made relay, however.

Yeah, these super low tunings aren't for me. basses tuned that low seem to loose all their "punch" and have no hope of being heard on a standard sound system.

I like my notes to be heard AND felt.

I must admit I was very hesitant bc of my bass tone. The Spectors really do it the best and the 435LX has been the lifesaver when it comes to "C".

Just to add to this and since I haven't posted a Dan Briggs link in a long time, here is a good example. This is a stock NS-2005 that has been Dan's main bass since he was a teenager I think he said. They tune down one and a half steps and his tone is simply amazing.

Skip forward to like a minute in and that is when the bass starts to come in.

Yep, that's where the balanced tension, string and material come in. I have a bass that is strung with a .190 set that is just as clean sounding, zingy and easy to play as my E strung bass. Of course it's a octave lower but that is the vibe I'm going for with that bass. Besides switching out the nut, I can switch between the two without any adjustment do to each set having the same tension on the neck.

I have to admit, that guy's a monster playing beyond my abilities. Personally we're just a cover band playing a variety of music from AIC, Tool, Rush, Coldplay, The Cult, Gin Blossoms... stuff like that, and we just like doing it in A440 like the recording. Makes it easier for us to learn. OK, we bring AIC up to E from Eb with a Tascam GB-10 and learn the song. C? C#? We just don't play that stuff. Not that there's anything wrong with it, it's just not our "thing". And when I strap on the Euro5 I can get lower than any four string in C or C#. Plus be able to access more notes from a single left hand position, I like that. But like I said, that's just me. It's all good.

As for tone I've always gone for the hi fi piano string tone for my basic tone and if I want crunch I try to get [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] But that's just me.

The tone that hooked me on Spector. Although lately I've been favoring a more driven sound- but depending on what I'm running the legend and euro into I can get all sorts of great sounds.

Actually, I started learning this way back when and never finished it... Maybe now that it's summer I'll have the time to really get it down.

Yeah, that is one that I am going to put on the back burner for now since I still have some kinks to work out with my technique Informal Gluttony is the one I am starting to mess with now and really love playing along with the intro part.

I hope he releases a book for The Parallax II so I can complete my collection I believe Paul released a guitar book but I would love to see a bass book from Dan for that CD.
